Introduction: How to Strap/Tape RC Tires
This is a technique that will prevent your RC's tires from ballooning out, which will help you gain traction and control at times of high power demand. It is a very easy process, and I am sure it will help all you bashers and racers alike :)
Step 1: Materials
For this simple project, you will need:
- A set of RC Tires you wish to Strap - I am using AKA Gridiron II's
- Scissors or a knife to cut with
- Duct tape of any color (it won't show)
Step 2: Remove the Foam Insert
Your tires should have a set of foam inserts inside the tire to hold the tires' shape, unless you are getting separate foams. These need to be pulled out to get access to the inside.
Step 3: Flip the Tire Inside Out
Be careful not to rip the tire when you do this (if your tire is softer). The foams may leave some powder or fuzz on the inside, which should be removed with a cloth.
Step 4: Wrap It With Tape
Wrap the inside with a single layer of duct tape. Make sure to keep the shape of the tire as you do this, and flatten the tape down on the curves. It does not have to look pretty.
Step 5: Flip the Tire Back
Smooth out any lumps that may have formed during this process by kneading the tire from the inside with your index finger and thumb. The smaller bumps should eventually even out after running them on your vehicle. Insert your foams and you're done! :)
