Introduction: How to Survive a Zombie Invasion.

This guide will help you in case there is nuclear warfare and everyone turns into a zombie. I caution you that this information might not help because I have not in fact seen an actual zombie.

Step 1: People

The first step to survive a zombie attack is to have people with you. This is in my opinion is the number one way to survive. What about weapons and food you say, well calm down and let me explain. Say all you had were people and a zombie starts running at you. What do you do? You push a fellow survivor down so the zombie stops to take care of him and you and your group run to safety. You may think this is mean, but think of it this way. It's either you or him.

Step 2: Weapons

One of your top priorities is to get weapons. But not just any weapon is good. For a melee weapon, your weapon must be at least four feet long so the zombie can't claw you, light so that you can use it faster, and must be able to take a zombie's head off on the first or second hit. A good example is an axe or chainsaw. For a firearm, it must be able to kill a zombie on the first or second shot. It must also be light weight if you don't have a  shelter, be fast and easy to reload, and have plenty of ammo. If you don't have a shelter, a good gun is a pistol, preferably a desert eagle or a magnum. If you have a shelter, a good weapon would be a shotgun or a rifle of any kind.

Step 3: Food and Water

To be able to live, you must have food and water. Also the food and water must not be contaminated. A good place to find food and water is in a gas station, store, camping supply store, or a restaurant. If you know that there is going to be nuclear warfare, then keep your food and drink underground in hard, sealed containers or in a sealed cabinet in the basement. Some good foods to keep when nukes fly, are camping foods. Stay away from stuff that will make you use the bathroom a lot as this will make you dehydrate. An example of foods that do this are beans.

Step 4: Shelter

The key to surviving zombies is to have a good shelter. This will help you rest to restore energy, keep you safe, and have and store everything you need. Some examples or good shelters are sporting goods stores, police stations, military bases (if there aren't infected soldiers in there) and maybe a gas station. All these place have the tools to help you survive. I said maybe to the gas station because it is small, not many exits, and highly explosive. The bright side to being in a gas station is the donuts and propane tanks and gas that will burn zombies and make barriers. An example of a place not to seek shelter is a tree. I say tree because you have no food, no where to store your stuff, and zombies will just wait at the bottom until you die or commit suicide by jumping into them.

Step 5: Movie Smarts

Another key way to survive a zombie attack is to now what happens in the movies. You need to know where the zombies hide out, how to kill them, and how to avoid them. The problem with being movie smart is that some movies the zombies are slow, and in other the zombies are fast. Prepare for both kinds. Some good movies to begin your preparation with are I Am Legend, Night of the Living Dead, and 28 Days Later (and 28 Weeks Later, the Sequel). After watching these you will have a good idea of what to do.

Step 6: A Plan

A good way to survive is to have a plan. Good plans consist on where to go, how to get necessities (foo, water, guns, etc.), and how to avoid zombies. My plan is to take a semi-truck with my non-infected friends, go to Dick's and fill the semi with guns, ammunition, food, fishing equipment, and water/other hydrating drinks. Then I will drive the semi to a port that has a cruise ship that doesn't have any infected people on board, fill the cruise ship up with the supplies, and then me and my buddies will cruise off into the middle of the ocean and live there until we die. How will we get clean water you say, we will boil it with a special technique that puts water into a cup and the salt into another.

Step 7: Thank You for Reading

Thank You. for other instuctables on how to live after on the cruise ship, please check my other instructables.

Alright...This entire posting is likely to get anyone killed who tried any of the things the author is mentioning. I think he's on the right track in some places but lets cover a few points.

    1. The chances of going to any sporting good store or gun store and actually finding anything is slighlty above 0.001%.

    2. Carrying a Desert Eagle or Magnum is probably the worst overall choice for a firearm in this situation. Have you considered the weight of carrying the amuniton here? These weapons have ammunition that isnt common compared to what you would find in the ensuing carnage of police cars, military vehicles etc where 9mm, .45 and .223/7.62 and 22 cal would be abundant - lighter and much easier to use. The weapons recoil alone would impede even the strongest person after so many rounds down range.

    3. Trying to post up in a gas station is almost a 100% death sentence. Gas stations are meant to advertise what the goodies are they have inside and how do you tell? Big glass windows and doors. Zambies would be through that in a second. your food stores are atrocious and lighting them on fire with propane? at a gas station? hmm....Side note here. Lighting a zombie on fire is an awful idea. If they are coming towards you then they are more likely to catch your shelter on fire as well which will force you out only to become a zombie cheeburger.

    4. The boat. I have often considered this scenario myself but here are your problems.
    - you will never make it there with a semi truck - most roads if not all will be clogged with dead vehicles of all sorts. you would have more success on a quad - gator - dirt bike of some sort.
    - Can you operate a 300-800ft vessel? I know i couldnt. The complexity is mind blowing. Just getting away from the dock would likely result in disaster.
    - Going out to sea for the rest of your lives is really unrealistic. you would eventually run out of fuel, desalizination requires maintanence and you couldnt rely on your skills to handle complex weather.

What i think would be better with the boat idea is to take something smaller, say a 50-80 foot sailboat and limp your way to one of the smaller islands in hawaii that isnt as populated or not at all. If your on the east coast there are tons of little islands dotting up all around Florida. Simply investigate several until you find one that has the resources (water, game of some sort) before disembarking and living the zombie free live.

    Good luck!

i doubt u would have much luck scavenging .50 cal ammo on the road... A more common but still large pistol round would be the .40 or .45 cal acp. i would reccomend pairing a short range weapon in 9mm or .40 cal. with with a pistol caliber carbine rifle which can take the same mags and ammo. a good example would be the sub-2000 and g-17; or g-22 and sub-2000 chambered for .40 cal, or su-16A. also how are u just going to go to the dock and find a ship with no zombies? U also need to have people in the group with knolegde of guns(how to take apart, clean, put back together etc.) and medical training. Ammunition is just as imporant as the gun itself and that means more than jus t the amount. for pistols and rifles and ur gonna want a one shot kill, and that means incindeiary rounds or hollow pionts. for shotguns u have to consider between buckshot, birdshot, slugs and evreything in between, if its legal where you live and u have the cash on hand to stock up, dragons breath would likely be quite effective at taking out gruops of zombies. hence i would reccomend a remington 870. automatic weapons have legal issues so the m-16 in 3-round burst configuration wuold be a strong alternative and help to conserve ammo. i like the idea of the ship and the semi though. overall not bad

You don't use a desert eagle you shoot it then it brakes your face becuse of the kick-back it costs $1.45 to shoot so you tell me is this a good idea.
"I am Legend" for a movie refrenc you are stupid zombies don't hide out they wander around looking for prey so I am going on a limb and saying you think it is easy to suvive it's not.

a chainsaw isnt the best option.  it has limited fuel, and generates too much noise.  you can fend off zombies for a few hours, then it becomes dead weight.  plus, the noise basically advertises you as an all you can eat buffet.

not only, when attacking the zombie with a chain saw, you can get blood spatter in your eyes, mouth or nose, alll of which can get you infected.

not necessarily. some zombie survival experts believe that the infection is only passed through bites.

I don't mean to be rude but there is only one type of zombie, if any zombie tissue, flesh, blood, bones, or fluids come into contact of an open wound or other opening you to will become a zombie!

if that's true, then the toxin or virus is produced in the salivary glands. Also, how can one be an expert on something that isn't very ..... well common? Is it possible to be an expert on zombies without well...... zombies? And I ask this with all due respect.
