Introduction: How to Turn Printer Paper Into Parchment

Making parchment is a fun and easy activity that anyone can do. If you want you can roll the parchment into scrolls, as shown in the first image.

Supplies

- 2 tbsp black tea (loose)

- 2 cups water

- Pot

- Sheet tray

Step 1:

Boil the tea and water until opaque when looked through a pipette, I used a turkey baster.

Step 2:

Pour the tea into a sheet tray, you want at least 1/4 inch high water. Leave in the tea leaves, as it will create irregular dye patterns that make the parchment more realistic. Next, soak a sheet of paper in the tea, it should have a yellow tint. The color will get darker as it drys.

Step 3:

Layout the sheets of paper to dry in a sunny area, to speed up drying time. When the paper is slightly damp, about one hour, if you wish to make scrolls, roll the paper up gently.

FYI; flat parchment will be easier to write on.

Step 4:

When the parchment is dried, it should look similar to image one or two depending on if you rolled it or not.

Step 5:

To write on a scroll, place a weight on the top, this is the inside edge of the scroll, your arm will be the bottom edge's weight.
