Introduction: How to Use a Clinometer
By Austin, Coleman, and Luke
Step 1: Step 1- Measuring
Find the distance from your position to your object
Step 2: Step 2- Using the Clinometer
Point the scope at the top of the object you are trying to find the height of.
Step 3: Step 3- Finding the Angle Measure
Record the angle given on the Clinometer. Then subtract that number from 90 degrees to find the angle measure.
Step 4: Step 4- Finding the Height
Find the tan of that angle measure then multiply it by the distance from the object to get the height from the eyes from the top of the object. Then measure the height from the ground to the eyes of your clinometer holder, and add it to that height to get the total height.
Step 5: Reflection
The most fun part was walking around class for two class periods. The most challenging part was doing the calculations at the end.
