Intro: How to Build a Life-changing Collection Box

How about using this life-changing collection box to raise money for the communities that are fighting the effects of climate change?

STEP 1: What You Need to Build Your Box

To build your collection box you need scissors, cellotape, 2 rulers, wrapping paper, our collection box labels, a piece of cardboard and the cardboard box of your choice.

STEP 2:

To get started you need to transform your evryday cardboard box into a life-saving money collecting box. You can do this by cutting a money-sized hole into the top of it.

STEP 3:

Now you need to cello tape the box shut, to keep the money from escaping.

STEP 4:

We then wrapped our box, you don't need to do this, but if you do you'll end up with a much prettier collection box!

STEP 5:

Now for the display panel. You need to cellotape a ruler to either side of your box. We fixed the ruler on at 11cm; enough space to stick the panel on and to keep everything fixed to the collection box.

STEP 6:

Once the rulers are stuck to both sides, stick you cardboard to the rulers.

STEP 7:

Now stick collection box posters to your display panel and the front of the box. Make sure you have the arrows in the right direction. (Unlike us!)

STEP 8:

You should find that people around you are compelled to give you their change, even before your fundraiser starts.

Its a little late in the thread but did it ever occur to the people that say we will adapt to global warming. That are brains are our biggest evolutionary trait and we should use that to try and solve the problem. In stead of waiting for this new magical transformation that will be more effective than our intellects.

well you see. there is more evidence proving climate"change" than there is evidence that humans actually exist. the problem is we really haven't been keeping records long enough to actually have figured out what is "normal". It is quite easy to say that if sea levels went up 30 feet a lot of the humans would be screwed. The problem with that is it is very easy to find pictures of ancient fossilized coral reefs(which only really grow UNDER water you know) an astounding 30 meters ABOVE sea level. that's right old coral reefs basically 120 feet above your head.SOOOOOO if the ice caps melt enough to raise the water level by 120 feet is that a sign of a "true" catastrophe or just a sign that the earth is going back to what is "normal"

In a few thousand years we "might" have enough data to make a 5th grade educated guess.

This is a cool idea, but I think the money from the box should be donated to fight something such as cancer or AIDS or homelessness, not something imaginary, such as "climate change".

I agree with him though. i suppose if i saw some actual evidence of climate change i might potentially change my mind though...

Denial of climate change is as well-based as the denial of evolution or the belief in geocentricity.

Unfortunately, whilst the other two mainly make you look foolish, denial of climate change is actually dangerous to humanity.

As well as observed rises in sea level, and observed increases in the rate of ice-cap melting and the observed reduction in glaciers globally and the observed increases in droughts, storms, tornadoes, floods etc, there is the looming spectre of global famines and shortages of drinkable water.

Sound like scaremongering? Read these articles and tell me GW isn't happening, then read this (and the linked articles) and tell me not to be worried.

Read and DO NOT BE WORRIED!  If there is global warming then there is nothing reasonable man can do about it.  Rate of ice cap melting?  Not at both poles!  Sorry but there has been a decrease in droughts, storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and floods for the last two years.  Rise in sea level or drop in land level from plate techtonics?  There has been NO change in climate tempatures for the past 11 years -- a fact.  Glacier melt is probably due to a solar cycle - not global warming caused by man.  The lack of drinkable water is not due to climate change but to increases in populations and usage of water.  Not to worry though, nature will eventually take care of that problem through starvation, dying of thirst, disease and warfare.  Reality is a bummer.  Trouble is too many people have been watching science fiction movies and actually think we can tame nature and solve the problems of the world in about 2 hours.  Those articles you mentioned are basically scare mongering.  Either humanity adapts to the environment or will join the extinct species of the world, which they will eventually do anyway.  Why live in fear, get on with your lives and enjoy them as much as possible.  We can not afford the so called "solutions" proposed by politicians and which scientists say will result in less than a .1% change in global temperature if all nations of the planet adhered to the proposals -- which they will not.  I for one will fight those that propose that I go back to living in a cave or tepee because some ignorant politician thinks I should.  I will continue to be well fed, clothed, warm, dry and amused by my television, radio, computer and other modern conveniences.  For those unfortunates who are living where islands are sinking beneath the waves, take personal responsibility for yourself and move.  Other illegal aliens are sneaking into Europe, United States and Canada, so why don't you?  People like Kiteman will gladly give up their home, income, health care and jobs to you.  Of course, I will not.

Actually, climate change is a natural cycle of the planet and largely based on the cycles of the sun. If you take the time to check your facts you will find the sun has been expanding and that the climate of the other planets are warming. Also a fact, if everyone on the planet followed all the recommendations there would be a net effect of less than 0.01 degrees in the next 10 years. The claim that humanity is the major cause of global warming is specious. This is a political not scientific argument. Even the scientists of the world cannot agree about global warming. The results of the meeting of scientists was written before the scientists even submitted their findings and not signed by those scientists. Most of the scientists are not specialists in the field and their views are no more of an authority on global warming than some brain dead druggie actor or rock and roll singer. You want to waste your time trying to fight nature, go ahead. I for one will look for ways to adapt to any coming change just like my ancestors did. The survival of the fittest will win in the end. The emperor has no clothes!

Actually, I have read those articles and others that contradict the alleged facts you referenced. By solar activity, do you mean sun spots? Hate to burst your bubble but the sun has been expanding. In other words the surface of the sun has gotten closer to our planet. If you do not think that makes a difference then why is Mercury and Venus hotter than our planet and Mars is colder. One volcanic eruption puts more green houses gases into the atmosphere than humanity does in 10 years. Bottom line is this. Humanity is not going to change their ways no matter what you and a thousand others say. China and third world developing countries are going to increase their use of fossil fuels and I am not willing to go to start living in a cave. If humanity is doomed, I am going to enjoy my life in the meantime. However, I do not believe all the so called experts and seriously doubt the doom sayers. You want to give up modern technology knock yourself out. I will not.

"Solar activity" (if you read the links) includes sunspots, output and size.

As for the other planets, try checking their relative distances, compared to the fluctuating diameter of the Sun.

And Venus... global warming's ultimate potential end.

As for the rest of your post; pure selfishness.

Well, unfortunately those articles I have read do not agree with yours. Also you will note that the last hurricane season was mild compared to previous and at the rate this season (which is almost over) is going to be milder than the previous. Your argument that weather is getting more severe belies the facts and data. Pure selfishness? Maybe, but at least I admit to it and do not champion the attempt by you and your kind to tell the rest of the world what to think, eat, say, and otherwise control others for your own egotistical reasons. You have become boring. I will no longer answer to your rubbish.

Since you refuse to be swayed by the facts as presented by the scientific establishment, I suggest you try joining this forum.

You may find this section most relevant.

It's free, friendly to new members, and all the admins are "proper" (i.e. published) scientists.

You can tell them I sent you if you want, or you can approach them cold, it's up to you.

If any of you have actually taken the time to look at the facts from both sides you will see that climate change is real, but has been going on since the earth first formed. What we do may have an effect, but there isn't anywhere enough data to know for sure either way.

And a side comment, recycling anything other than metal creates more pollution than making new items. Please don't recycle plastic, just stop buying it in the first place. The three R's are REDUCE, REUSE and then if that doesn't get it all Recycle what you can of the rest, not Recycle, Recycle and recycle some more.

Nobody has denied past variations have occurred, or that some periods of the Earth's history were much warmer than today.  Some were much colder (google for snowball Earth).

Apart from those who simply deny the data, the whole scientific community now realises that the current period of warming is not simply coincidental with humans being on the planet, but that the warming is almost entirely anthropomorphic - the correlation between human activity, atmospheric gases and temperature is amazingly close.
