I used your instructions very informative but the setback I'm having with is that I'm unable to make big prints... the E-axis motor starts to makes noises that it didn't do before with small prints and the first layer of the bigger prints seem to wreck themselves if I continue with the big prints I keep making emergency stops... although most of my practice models 1inch cubes but it's off by 1/16 of an inch from being a perfect cube, are there any suggestions? When is a good time to use the fan during a print? Is there a way to make bigger prints? Any instructions would be most helpful :)

I have successfully used the above info to set up a Printrbot Simple Metal. The following changes should be made however:
Printer Settings: X max=170 y max= 270
area width 230 D=165 H=250
In Slic3 Prnt Settings
Configure --> Ext.Perimeter (tick the box)
Step 10 of above: Slic3r --. Filament Settins --. Extruder First Layer 200
Other Layers 200
Slic3r: Printer Settings --> General bed size x 170 y 270
Print Center 85 135
Custom GCode : replace start text with the following:
G28 X0 Y0
G29
Notes: After starting Repetier Host connect printer with CONNECT button in top left-hand corner of screen. To save time pre-heat extruder by gong to MANUAL CONTROL and HEAT EXTRUDER --. Important - this only works after you have hit the small ON button on th DEBUG OPTIONS line. Then load load your stl file ; place it correctly on the bed, Slice and then print.
The above instructions may seem obvious to many but for someone using Repetier Host for the first time and setting up a3D printer straight out of the box (as I did) the information may save some head scratching and/or frustration :-)

I have a different version of the Repetier Program this version is v1.0.6 ... Is there anything I need to know about my Repetier v1.0.6?

Hi,
Thanks for the great information! Have you tested these settings with the new Printrbot Simple (Maker Kit with belt drive)? Are there any changes you would recommend for the new model? I would think print speeds could be increased due to the belts. An updated guide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks Robosavvy. Some of these seem different from Printrbot instructions, but I'm willing to try new things :)
I was wondering about the choices for filament settings; do you use 1.8 * 1 as a correction for the extrusion rate of the 1.75 filament? For example, I have been using 1.75 * .9523 as my measured rate correction.
Thanks again!

Hi!
Yeah I had always used 1.75 * 1 (as most of the filament diameter is around 1.75mm). However decided to change it because sometimes, mid-print, I'd have a big blob come out of my extruder and ruin my print.
After measuring I found that what is labelled as 1.75mm filament ranges from 1.68 to about 1.84 - with grey brand filament the variables are even worse!
After changing it to 1.80 I stopped having this problem :)

Does it work with reprap printers?
Reply 9 years ago on Introduction
They have not been tested with RepRaps, but if you do, please let us know how they worked out! :)

Thanks for showing us how to use what appears to be a useful 3D printing utility. How does it compare to other options?

IMO Repetier host is really the best option for Printrbots!
It is by far the most straight forward to use: once your 3D part is designed it's easy to load into it, tweak your slic3r settings, slice, and it generates beautiful layers you can scroll through and look at. Also, it is the best one to personalize your settings - and easily change them depending on what you are printing.
The only real downside I suppose would be that Pronterface is more widely used - and therefore has more support should you run into issues.
