Introduction: How to Create a Paper Plate Basket
Today we will be demonstrating how to create a cute, crafty basket out of a paper plate.
Step 1: Gather Supplies
- Crafting scissors
- Regular Scissors
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Paper plates (9 in. diameter)
- Paper clips 4x (any size)
- Washi tape for decoration
Step 2: Measure Out Trim
Setting the plate face down, measure out half an inch from the edge of the paper plate.
Step 3: Cutting the Plate
Using the crafting scissors, cut the circumference of the plate. Discard trim.
Step 4: Divide the Plate
Keeping the plate face down, divide the plate into 9 sections (squares preferably). Drawing parallel lines at the top and bottom of the plate; then two more parallel lines on each side of the plate. The lines should resemble a tic-tac-toe layout, with the middle being a square shape.
Step 5: Make Incisions
Using the regular scissors, begin to cut every other line where the lines intersect. You should have made 4 cuts in total.
Step 6: Create Side Pieces
Using the inside square as a guideline, you will begin to fold the sections towards the middle, forming a crease on the square’s lines. This will serve as the side of the basket. Make sure that you fold it to where the pencil marks are on the inside so that the marks don’t show on the outside.
Step 7: Fold Corner Pieces
Next, you crease the smaller corner sections. These will serve as the inside corner pieces.
Step 8: Create Box Shape
Next, you are going to fold up the inside corner piece and side piece, to where the side piece will be placed on the outside of the inside corner piece. Use one paper clip to secure the shape for now. Repeat for the other three corners.
Step 9: Remove Paper Clips
Remove the paper clips as you wrap the box with the washi tape, as the tape will hold the basket together.
Step 10: Wrap the Box
Finish wrapping the washi tape around the basket for decoration until edges of the tape meet at the beginning.
Step 11: Fill Box
Fill the basket with candies.
