    If the object is indestructible but the hammer is not, presumably repeated attempts to destroy the indestructible object would result in destruction of the hammer?

    That depends on whether or not the indestructible object is harder than the hammer. Which I suppose seems reasonable to assume that it is, but is it really? I guess the real question is "Would an indestructible object be infinitely hard or have a specific hardness?" And that's determined by what it is exactly that causes it to be indestructible.

    And now we descend into logical absurdities...
    On the upside, we could sell the dialog to the big bang theory on tbs.
