Very nice, detailed and helpful for those of us who really don't know what to do.
I do have a question for you? I have a second generation whose LED doesn't work and Apple wants me to buy a new one with the same old 4.2 ios. The iPod Touch works but it won't light up...do you have any information on fixing that.

Thanks again, for the instructable! and the inspiration!

The led backlight is built into the LCD screen so you would have to replace the LCD. The second gen ipod touch is different to this instructable as the LCD is separate from the digitiser. I would buy a replacement from amazon (stay away from the chinese sellers) just had a look and they cost around £10. Have a look on youtube for a how to replace LCD on 2nd gen ipod.
good luck and thanks for kind words
