Introduction: How to Fix the Red Ring of Death (and Not With Towels)
Like many Xbox 360 owners, I have always lived in dread of the red ring of death. i had heard about it and how to fix it with towels, and one day it happened and the reason it happens is usually because the cooling fan has broken and stopped working and your X-box has over heated. If you catch it quick, this solution should work, but I can't promise anything. Also I am not responsible of this messes up your xbox. If you do this, you are doing it at your own risk. but it probably wont mess up anything. it didnt mess up mine and im still having fun planing xbox alll the time.
Step 1: Cause
When your Xbox over heats some of the connections get bad and the LEDs will turn red. The fans in the back of it that cool it stop working and it overheats. so after you fix it you should look into getting a new fan. In my case i had opened up my xbox and taken the fan and forgotten to put it back in.
Step 2: How to Fix It
If you see that its broken and its within about 15 to 25 minutes that you look at this than go ahead and skipthis sentence. if its been a while since it got the red ring o' death then plug it in, turn it oon, and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. then take it a put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes. when you take it out obviously it will be cold so let it warm up a bit. now once its close to room temp plug it in and turn it on. (you dont have to take your xbox apart mine was apart for a different project and it doesnt matter if yours is still together)
Step 3: Conclusion
so thats it. i hope the best for you that it works and you are able to play xbox much more

NEVER PUT YOUR XBOX IN A FREEZER, it breaks solder.

The easiest way i found to keep this from happening is I have one of those cheap tower fans that when I am playin my xbox i sit behind it so it blows on the back of it and have not had a problem with it at all

Yeah, this 'able is a fail. All you are doing is temporarily staving off the problem. This is not a solution. And you just voided your warranty for a non working 'fix'.

I know this sounds a bit radical, but if the source of the Red Ring of Death is overheating, why not improve the cooling in the case?? If the temperature controller has failed, the fans could be run straight from the supply.

This seems more like a band-aid than a fix
