Introduction: How to Make Dank Memes
To make Dank Memes, first you have to understand what they are. A meme (/ˈmiːm/ meem) is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture". If a meme is considered Dank (a satirical synonym for "cool") then its popularity on the internet will spike tremendously.
Step 1: Step 1: Select the Meme
Most memes are created with templates from other memes, so all you have to do is find one you like and make it yours. There are many different memes, for example the one above is the "Doge" meme, "Doge is a slang term for “dog” that is primarily associated with pictures of Shiba Inus (nicknamed “Shibe”) and internal monologue captions on Tumblr. These photos may be photoshopped to change the dog’s face or captioned with interior monologues in Comic Sans font." -http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/doge
Step 2: Step 2: Getting Blank Meme Picture
After selecting the meme you wish to use you have to get the picture the meme came from, to use the earlier example you would use the picture above.
Step 3: Step 3: Adding Text
Text is a crucial part of any meme, and some memes require the text to follow certain rules. The Doge example uses comic sans and uses certain words like, "wow", or "such", before something that relates to the picture. However, most memes use the font from the picture on the bottom.
Step 4: Step 4: Adding the Dank
In certain contexts the word 'Dank' may have different meanings.
Sometimes it is used to describe drugs and sometimes memes, sometimes the two intersect in drug related memes. However, in the most situations 'Dank Memes' are just memes that became very popular.
Step 5: Step 5: Possible Errors
You have to be careful you follow the guidelines set by the memes that come before you. For example, the Bob Ross Doge does not use comic sans, therefore not making this a correct Doge meme.
Step 6: Step 6: Resources
There are many resources you can use to help with this process, one of which being quickmeme. They have meme templates and fonts so it's hard to go wrong.
Step 7: Step 7: Understanding Memes
Some memes are more popular than others, why? "It's definitely not a science, but my
personal opinion is that the formula often involves absurdity, and it also requires a certain inside-joke quality." As quoted from 'Meme Scientist'. Understanding your audience goes a long way.
Step 8: Step 8: Find Somewhere to Post the Meme
After you have successfully created your meme, you need to share it with the world. You can share them almost anywhere, but there are a few places that get the most meme traffic. Imgur is one of the biggest image hosting sites and has a lot of memes posted everyday, yours may not be accepted like others are, but I will talk about the possible reasons for that in another step.
