Introduction: How to Make a Crayon Roll!

About: Im a stay at home mommy to 3 wonderful little men. I have a love for sewing, and it is great down time from being a mommy.

This is how to make a very cute yet simple to make crayon roll.

Crayon rolls are a great way to keep kids crayons organized on the go! They are wonderful for the car, plane rides, doctor offices, restaurants...
My kids love them and i bet yours will to!

Step 1: Gathering Materials

You will need THREE 18x6 inches pieces of cotton fabric and ONE 18x6 inches piece of fleece.
Also a strip of fabric that is 11x3 inches, and one 9 inch piece of 1/4 inch thick elastic.

Breakdown of all tools Needed:
*Cotton Fabric
*Fleece
*1/4 inch elastic
*Safety pin
*Iron
*Chalk/Marker
*Ruler

Step 2: Start Sewing

Fold a piece of cotton fabric that you want for the pockets in half lengthwise. Sew along the top fold. I used a decorated stitch to make it more fun!

Step 3: Making Up the Pockets

Layering:
The fleece on bottom.
Then the cotton fabric that makes the back part of the pockets in the middle(I used the black strawberry).
Then the cotton fabric you just sewed in half on top.
Match up all the raw edges keeping the folded part in the middle.

Pin to keep in place.

Mark every 1.5 inches with a chalk line.
Notice: There will be about half an inch left on one end that will be folded in later, so dont cut it off!

Sew over top of your lines. Make sure you back stitch to reinforce any tugging caused by pulling crayons in and out. We all know how kids are lol.

Step 4: Sew the Pieces Together

Lay the last piece of fabric on top that will make the outside of the crayon roll right sides together.

Pin to keep it together

Sew around leaving the end with the extra 1/2 inch that i was telling you about before open.

Snip off your corners, and turn inside out.

Fold in the extra 1.2 inch from the open end, and Iron flat.

Step 5: Making the Strap

Now i have seen a couple ways to make a closer for these(ribbon, valcro,...), but i find this way is easy for even little kids. I know that i dont like having to tie something close over and over again, so i tried this way for my kids and they love it!

Take your 11x3 inch piece of fabric that makes up the strap fold in half lengthwise right sides together (if using a pattern), and sew down one side.

Turn inside out, so the raw edge is inside.

Using your safety pin push the elastic thru the strap.

Zig zag the end to make a loop.

Step 6: Your Almost Done!

Add your strap to the open end of the crayon roll.

Pin to keep in place

Top stitch all along the edge to give it a finished look. Make sure you backstitch over where the strap is placed for reinforcement again :)

And your done sewing!

Step 7: Add Your Crayons and Roll Up Some Fun!

Now you just have to put your crayons in their little pockets roll up and take them anywhere!
