How to Make a Heart Attack

Intro: How to Make a Heart Attack

After watching a certain internet video sensation where copious amounts of bacon are used, I decided to try my hand at some epic foods.  This is my first creation, the Heart Attack.

STEP 1: Prepare Yourself!!!

The Heart Attack consists of two ingredients, bacon and cheese.  The specific type of these two ingredients (i.e. smoked bacon vs. maple cured) is up to your particular preference.  Mine happens to be maple cured with sharp cheddar cheese.

Ingredients:
1 lb      Bacon (thick cut gives just enough slices, regular cut leaves some extra) (not pictured)
1/2 lb  Cheese (shredded melts nicely)

Tools:
1 Frying pan
2 Spatulas
1 Grease container
ample paper towels

STEP 2: Weave It Up!

Take your bacon and weave it into a mat of deliciousness.  It's easiest to do this directly on the frying pan you'll be using so you don't have to move it around.  Begin frying.  You'll want to do this on a slightly lower setting than normal to ensure it can heat all the way through.

STEP 3: Flip That @($*

I apologize for the flagrant use of symbols in the title....

Flipping can be difficult.  I've done it using two spatulas before, but it takes a lot of patience to keep the mat together.  This time, i used a pan the same size to sandwich the bacon, and then flip it over the sink.  I did drain the grease before I flipped it to be safe.

STEP 4: Cheese It Up

pretty simple, add about a half pound of cheese to one side of the bacon mat.  Also, increase the temperature a little bit.  As the cheese starts to melt, flip the empty side of the mat over onto the cheese.

STEP 5: Let It Sizzle

Leave the mat to fry for a minute, and the flip it over.  Let it sit for another minute or two, then remove it from the pan and set onto some paper towels on a plate.  Let it cool for a minute, and then go to town!!!

STEP 6: Retrospective

This is probably the most unhealthy thing i've made for myself.  I do not recommend this to anyone.  It will give you a heart attack, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday...

Enjoy!!

This is Primal and Paleo approved too. We eat bacon every day or breakfast sausage. My husband and I have each lost 65 pounds in the past year and lowered our cholesterol.
Unhealthy? This is 100% Atkins approved! and you know how healthy those guys are!

I would submit that this would be easier to do in an oven. It would lose a bit of street cred, tho.

I would make TWO bacon mats of equal size (1 lb each) and bake them almost completely done, add the cheese to one and put the other on top and finish. This would eliminate the flipping dilemma and make for easier cleanup since there is less/no splatter (which is where it loses its street cred).

For a more upscale verson, use cheese sticks and wrap the bacon around them. You have heart attack hors d'oeuvres!
I like the double mat idea, the more the merrier. But bacon is all about street cred lol. I'm imagining my next attempt will be a bacon/cheese/mashed potato pinwheel... we'll see how that turns out
Holy smokes! How did the pinwheel turn out. Sounds artery-hardeningly spectacular. (clutches chest)
regrettably, it never happened (though my arteries are thanking me). however i urge you to try it
I may not have a heart attack eating it but Im sure my cardiologist would if she knew I was making it !
what your doctor know won't hurt her...
