Introduction: How to Make a Cheap Dussack Out of Wood

A Dussack is a sort of small European sword, but I let Wikipedia do the explaining: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dussack
Thw wooden ones were used for training.
All you need to make one is a 70 * 15 cm (27 * 6 inches) piece of wood with a thickness of about 2 cm (0,8 inches), a saw, sandpaper and the stencil.

Step 1: Print the Stencil

The stencil should be printed on three pages and then put together, so it reaches a length of about 60 to 70 cm, or about 24 to 28 inches.
The first image shows the stencil when it's out together. The other three pictures should be printed on A4-pages (A4 is about equal to the letter format in the US), then glued together and cut out. Don't forget to cut out also the space for the handle!

Step 2: Do It!

With the help of the stencil, draw the outlines of the Dussack on the wood and saw it out. I used spruce because I had it at home, but I recommend harder wood. Again, I have to remind you of also sawing out the handle.
After that, use the sandpaper to smooth the handle and the "blade". Of course, all this is much easier and faster with a grinding machine.
Unfotunately, I made no pictures during this step, but it is not that difficult.

Step 3: Finish

Now you are finished, but some people recommend to oil wooden swords, I will oil my next one and find out the difference.

    So in Germany they used to fight serious duels with these things and they won by hitting their oponent hard enough on the head to draw blood? That is so weird and interesting! Too bad you didn't include a bit of the history of them in the Instructible instead of just the Wikipedia link. I will be making one as a Wall Ornament with a framed note about what it is a replica of and what they used to do with them.
