Introduction: How to Make an Automatic Chicken Farm
Hello guys. In this instructable I will be showing you how to make a fully automatic chicken farm that produces cooked chicken and feathers.
Step 1: Getting Prepared
What you will need:
- Some building blocks, like cobblestone
- 4 glass
- 3 carpets
- A bucket of lava
- A ches
- tA dispenser
- 4 hoppers
- A redstone comparator
- 6 pieces of redstone
- 2 redstone repeaters
You will also need an area of land that is 3 blocks wide, 6 blocks deep and 5 blocks tall.
Step 2: Layer 1
In the first layer you will need to place a chest in the middle and front of the area with the hopper feeding into it right behind it as shown in the picture. You will also need to fill all the other spaces in the layer with your building blocks.
Step 3: Layer 2
In layer 2 you will need to put a glass block above the chest, a half slab behind that and a dispenser facing into the half slab. You will also need to fill the spaces to the left and right of these blocks.
For the back part of layer 2 you will need to put a repeater facing into the block to the left of the dispenser and put 2 redstone dust behind that repeater. You will also have to put a powered comparator facing out of the dispenser and a repeater facing out of the comparator. You can then go ahead and fill all the remaining spaces on that layer with redstone dust, as shown in the picture.
Step 4: Layer 3
In layer 3 you will need to put a block of glass above the glass in layer 2, put a hopper feeding into a dispenser and 2 more hoppers feeding into the first one behind that. You will also need to put building blocks to the sides and back of the hoppers and glass as shown in the picture. You can then go ahead and put the lava above the half slab.
Step 5: Layer 4
In layer 4 you will need to put a glass block on top of the lava, another glass block in front of that and then put carpets onto the hoppers. You can then fill all the remaining spaces with your building blocks.
Step 6: Layer 5 and Final Steps
The final layer should be filled with your building blocks. To fill up the machine you will need to break one of the blocks on top of the hoppers and throw eggs into the area so a chicken can hatch. The more chickens you have on the hoppers, the faster you can get cooked chicken.
Step 7: AFK Near the Farm and Get Your Chicken!
The last step is to afk near your farm and let the chicken flow. I would suggest putting this farm somewhere around your house, but not too close, since the chickens can make a lot of annoying sounds.

the chicken just keep dying in the lava and i check the chest but there is nothing
Question 1 year ago
We made this per the instructions and it works exactly as planned with one oddity.
No matter how many chickens we get into the bottom part under the lava, once they grow up we only ever get 1 cooked chicken at a time.
We once had at least 5 chickens in there, we came back and it was empty but we only had 1 cooked.
Is this normal or did we miss something?

Not sure what the dispenser does or how it works, but it's awesome!

Its really cool! it shoots the eggs the chickens lay and there's a high chance of it hatching under the lava on the half slab, a regular chicken would be burned standing on the half slab but the baby chickens are to small.

I made this tho slightly different in 1.16.1 I'm finding the hatched chickens don't grow so they can burn in the lava... How long do I have to wait?

i dont know how this works but it seems intresting
do i put a lava bucket in the dispenser? or the eggs that the chickens lay will go through the hoppers and break the eggs that"ll hatch chickens that will burn and then what?

first the chickens in the farm lay eggs, they are sent to the dispenser through hoppers and the eggs are thrown which results in breaking them and hatching a baby chicken XD,
they're 1/2 blocks high so the lava wont damage them. When they grow up after some time they grow to 1 block height, then they are cooked and sent to the chest via the hopper

Tried building on ps4 I just get flashing lights. The dispenser doesn’t dispense automatically. Maybe if I add an observer?

If you are still having a problem make sure to have the comparator powered and the repeaters in the right direction, mine was doing the same thing until I fixed the repeater direction.

On the final layer I recommend using a trapdoor above one of the hoppers to throw in more eggs rather than having to break a block every time

New guy here...when the directions say layer 1...2.. etc..is that going from the bottom up i am guessing?

You should give credit to Xisumavoid, as this is an exact replica of the chicken farm he built.

I think there’s so many people who have made this before it might not have been Xisumavoid first

i used a second dropper loaded with a lava bucket with a button so I can trigger the lava as needed since with the new update entity cramming will kill them after a while too (though it will be raw)

I just get raw chicken lol
