Intro: How to Make Your Flash Drive Into an Impenitrable Data Safe :P

Okay, so basically what we'll be doing is making it so your generic flashdrive or mp3 player (Basically anything that uses flash memory...) can be safe from a predator finding it and going through what you store on it :)

STEP 1: Get Some Software -.-

Okay, to complete this first step, your gonna have to go and downlaod something :) (sorry :| ) and this something isn't just anything! ITS WINRAR!!!!! you can get this from www.rarlabs.com then go to the downlaods section and get it. Now, since you completed that, go ahead and plug in your usb flash drive.

STEP 2: Making the "secure" Folder!

Now that you have winrar, and you have your usb flashdrive plugged in and all reved up and ready to go. Go ahead and open up the removable disc file thats in your "computer" folder. Now what you have to do is select all the files in there, and then right click. After you right click go to "Add to archive..."

STEP 3: Making the "secure" Folder "secure."

Now, to actually make it secure. After you add all those files to an archive, a window will pop up ( see picture) You can either make it RAR or ZIP, I personally reccomend zip, because the software for extracting it is default with windows, so lets continue using the ZIP extension. Then go to the advanced tab, then set password, and then type in your choice of password and click ok. ( see picture) And then ok again.

STEP 4: You're Secure!

Now you have a 100% secure flash drive, so if you lose it and you have imporant info, it won't be harmed (unless of course they break the flash drive...) Also, what I reccomend, is putting a text file in your flash drive that has your contact info and stuff in it. ( Once again, see the picture :P )

you don't have to waste your money on Winrar. Peazip will do the same thing with higher encryption methods for free.

I use Truecrypt to create a encrypted virtual partition and use Ihound (http://www.ihoundsoftware.com) in the "public" partition. Ihound is free for up to 3 devices and once set up, will email you the IP Address and location of your flash drive. I also make a copy of the encrypted file and stick it on an online storage website like ADrive. That way if all is lost I still have an encrypted backup that I can access and download anywhere I can get on the web.
I have set up a drive like this for a friend who was in the process of getting divorced and it gave considerable peace of mind knowing that his notes and photos for his lawyer were safe even if his ex wife had the drive in her possession and he would know immediately when she plugged it in and where.
The only thing I would like on top of all that would be to have some way of auto erasing the files if an incorrect password was entered 3 times in a row like the IronKey system.

You can get free-to-use programs that will crack that password in a matter of minutes right? That isn't impenetrable at all. In fact, getting round it is quite trivial.
