Intro: How to Modify Your DDR Pad to Play With Your Gameboy Advance

This modified device was part of a project for my art class. We would have to pick a device and modify it with a new function. I chose a Gameboy Advance and modified with a Dance Dance Revolution pad. I chose the game Pacman because it would be more suitable gameplay for using the DDR directional pads.

The process consisted of a modified Gameboy Advance and a modified DDR Pad.

STEP 1: Gather Materials

Materials needed:
Gameboy Advance
DDR Pad (I bought one @ Gamestop for $15)
Soldering iron
Solder
Small screw driver
Alluminum foil
Electrical tape
Small stranded wires
Alligator clips
Pliers
Batteries

STEP 2: Modify the DDR Pad

Get your DDR pad

STEP 3: Create a Case for the Wires

Use the Game stop wires to store the excess wires.

Drill some hole to fit the wire through easy access.

Be sure to NAME the controls for each wire (I used some tape to identify them)

You should have a total of 8 wire strands (2 wires to complete the circuit/pad)

Close the back cover with electrical tape.

STEP 4: Modify the Gameboy Advance

Take apart the game boy hardware.

Find the primary spots (8 spots) for the directional buttons.

Solder the wire on top of the hardware.


Put back the cover, and snip off excess wire.

STEP 5: Make the Extension Cables

Gather some wires and use it as a extension from connecting the gameboy to the ddr pad.

You should again have 8 wires total that connect the gameboy to the ddr pad.

Use some alligator clips to connect these wires together.

Use some wiring clips to make it organized.

STEP 6: Connect the Corresponding Wires to the Ddr Pad and Gameboy.

Use the extension cables to connect both the gameboy and ddr pad.

Make sure you connect them to their corressponding areas. (Right, Right, & Left, Left, etc.)

Insert the game. I used the classic Pacman game.

STEP 7: Turn It on and Enjoy the Game.

At. first, the game is hard at first because your mind is trying to correspond to your feet instead of your fingers. This is a great way to exercise, and a embarsssing way to watch your friends make fools of themselves. If your having trouble holding the Gameboy in your hand, try to put it on a table or put it on a stand.

great work took me a few hours to do that project now im working on how to make a nintendo ds play plastion 1 games which will take awhile well in my spare time i usually go to nintendo world in nyc which i love to go to well anyways great work keep it up :D

to wire it to the pc, you gotta get a usb adapter, or buy a pc pad for about $5. To wire it to a psp is pretty much like how he did it to the gba, only to the psp board.
