Remote capture:

or
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/RemoteCapture-Download-53229.html
It works with most cameras that allows remote shooting(Taking a picture using your computer-The photo/ video infront of the camera must be seen on your pc's screen). The software Zoom browser EX(containing remote capture) is available with the camera. Then you can use live output available with Camtasia recorder(Camtasia studio application) to record the camera video from the screen. Use a webcam to detect the camtasia live output and you're done. Might be a little complex though. Just 4 steps, 2 steps more than using a normal webcam. 1)Connect camera 2)Use remote shooting 3)Use Camtasia live output 4)Enable webcam in messenger. Done!!!

Hi... according to what I've read, I don't think it's supported.

so i just came across an old canon powershot sd550 when trying to find my old Logitech G7 was gonna finally replace the dead batteries online. I'd have to replace the battery and maybe even a lcd screen in the back, though not as badly if i can hook it up to a computer and use the screen as a range finder. Just wondering if anyone knows if this would be a waste of both my time and money? I'm tempted with getting one of those cheap go pro knockoffs. Looked like they used those in the making of the martian (at least for the inside the rover scenes). I just want a affordable camera able to pick up at least some details on miniatures that can be hooked to my computer to stream and/or capture. I don't need anything waterproof or able to adjust for lighting conditions. at least nothing more than glare and the like. Just want to be able to share the battlefield with my friends in other provinces/countries.

is there any specific Zoom browser EX version to use it?

I dont think the latest versions are gonna work. I suggest using the same version i used in the video. I don't remember which version it was though cz it was ages ago..

Using SparkoCam from http://sparkosoft.com you can use Canon Powershots and EOS cameras as webcam under Windows.

The remote capture software doesn't work for the Canon Powershot S5 IS (which isn't in the list, but I thought it was worth a try.) Pity, I've been after something like this.

maybe it doesn't work for that model
Reply 14 years ago on Introduction
Nope, apparently not. What DOES work is Breeze PSRemote which gives full control over all aspects of the camera and allows you to set up a static camera completely driven by the PC which is really excellent for making Instructables - look out for 'Curious Encounters of the Minty Kind' to see how good it gets. PSRemote does cost though. BTW, most digital cameras have a webcam mode which allows you to use it as a standard image capture device via Windows to any of the free (or paid for) webcam proggies.

PtpCamGui also works with the S5 quite well, and doesn't cost a cent.
