Introduction: Anna's - Insta / Poly-Morphs Color Pigment Using Crayons !

About: We like coming up with new creative craft projects.

I looked All over the Internet, but found Nothing -about using Crayons as Color Pigments for Insta / Poly-Morphs.

The suggestions were Alcohol based Pigments / Inks. Not to use Water Base. But, these cost money.

Why not Crayons ? - They are Oil based. - Like Old Crayons ... ?

Voila - it worked ... !

Step 1: Crayon Shreds / Pieces :

First, we cut off about 1/4in piece of Crayon.

This seemed to work for about 1 Tablespoon of Melted Plastic - say of 1in Ball size Plastic.

We used Red here, although it almost looked Brown.

The Darker Colors seem to give deeper Colors.

Then we diced the Crayon piece up.

Step 2: Plastic in an Empty Pot ...

We threw the 1 Tablespoon volume piece of the Poly Plastic into an empty pot ...

(No crayons yet !)

Step 3: Hot Water on the Plastic ...

Then, we poured hot water from a preheated teapot, to cover the Plastic ...

This seems to be the easiest method. Only need to swirl it around for about 1 minute.

Step 4: Melted Plastic ...

After 1 minute of swirling, the White Plastic - turns Transparent ...

Step 5: Roll the Plastic Over the Crayon Pieces ...

Next, carefully use a Fork to lift the Plastic out of the Hot Water.

And, Roll the Plastic over the Crayon bits.

Step 6: Crayon Pieces Should Be Rolled / Clamped Inside the Plastic ...

I found it best to Wrap the Plastic 'Fully Around' the Crayon Pieces.

So, that the pieces are 'Inside' the Plastic - to keep them from falling off.
Then, squish, Squish , SQUISH, ... !

Need to squeeze and mix untill it is uniform in color.

Step 7: Reheat to Continue Remixing ...

You will need to reheat , because it cools quickly.

Step 8:

After Squishing, it will turn uniform in color.

You may / will need to reheat a few times...

Step 9: All Finished !

This is the final result. We tried assorted old crayon pieces of Red , Blue , Yellow , Green.

The InstaMorp solidified fine like usual.

You may need to reheat and mix 2 or 3 times to get a smooth consistent color texture.

Used about 1/4" of crayon piece per 1 Tablespoon of Melted Plastic.

Great Use for Old Crayons ... !

- HAVE FUN !
