Introduction: Integrated Circuits
The Shift Register is one of the simplest and most useful Integrated Circuits. Using the Clock and Data pin, you can enter 8 bits into the outputs. This circuit only uses the first 4 bits.
In this circuit the top pushbutton controls the clock pin and the bottom pushbutton controls the data pin. To enter a high, hold the data pushbutton down and press the clock pushbutton. To enter a low, just press the clock pushbutton alone. More on this at RealCircuits.com

- 1000 Ohms Resistors (4)
- 104 Ceramic Capacitor
- Jumper Wires
- Pushbuttons (2)
Step 1: JK Flip Flop
This is a useful circuit and can be used in place of a switch. This JK will change the LED every time the pushbutton is pressed. Both of these are from the first kit.
