Introduction: J.D. Gym in Tinkercad
This is my original design for a workout gym, which includes a realistic wall texture, full interior, sign for the gym, and a guide on how to make all this! This was all created in Tinkercad, using their simple shapes.
Supplies
You will need:
- computer running Windows, MacOS, or Linux
- CAD designing software (Tinkercad, Fusion360, etc.)
- Imagination! (of course)
Step 1: Create Shape of Building
To start, you will need to select the "cube" shape in Tinkercad. It can be as big or as small as you would like! In this case, my cube is 160mm x 100mm x 90mm. This will represent the framing of the building which holds everything else up.
Step 2: Create Door Frame
For this step, you will need another cube, but not a solid. You will want to think of this hole as a doorway into the building. In my case, this opening was about 34mm tall, and 40mm wide. I made this doorway a bit wider to fit double doors!
Step 3: Make Building Hollow
In this step, I used another cube hole that is roughly 6mm smaller than the outside shape. This creates 3mm thick walls all around! We will be using this as the outline of the interior.
Step 4: Add Texture to the Walls
In the special shapes section in Tinkercad, you will find a brick wall texture pre-made! In this building I will be using this to cover the exterior walls to enhance the look. Simply overlay each brick segment to align with the neighboring piece. This will go all the way around the building, excluding the doorway.
Step 5: Doors
The next step is to create doors to fit in the doorway to the building. For this step, I started with two separate cubes next to each other, representing double doors. I then added two smaller cubes to represent door knobs. You can made your door as fancy or simple as you would like!
Step 6: Pick Your Color!
This step is fully up to whoever is making this model, but I chose a brick red color for the exterior. This gives it a more colorful and realistic appearance.
Step 7: Holes for Windows
This step requires more cubes in hole form. I positioned two of these on either side of the doorway to spread them out a bit. You may decide to put these wherever you'd like.
Step 8: Windows
Fitting windows is fun! You get to choose the color, shape, and transparency. I used cubes that were changed to transparent to simulate a window.
Step 9: Porch
This step is not at all necessary, but I thought it would give the building a bit more character. I started out with another cube that was flattened and rotated at a 22° angle. I then added two cylinders connecting the roof to the ground to make it more secure.
Step 10: Gym Name
I wanted to give this gym a name, so I created a sign to rest on top of the building. I started with yet another cube, flattened and resized, and used the text shape to put a name on the board.
Step 11: Second Floor
It would feel so empty if this gym had no second floor! I flattened and resized a cube to act as a flooring inside the building. I raised this up enough to give the first floor some room. I designed this to hold all the exercising equipment. The bottom floor will be used for the check-in counter and merchandise area.
Step 12: Finishing Touches
This step is completely unnecessary, but I did it anyway. Most people will do this very differently, which is why I'll be leaving this out. Downstairs I designed a check-in counter, and upstairs I designed lifting weights and treadmills. I also added water bottles which were pre-made shapes in Tinkercad.
