Introduction: James Develin Gym

This is my entry for the James Develin Gym contest.

This gym was designed to be inclusive for everyone without being too restrictive and still allowing exercise for all. The gym has also been adapted to deal with Covid.

Step 1: Entrance

The Entrance is a wide doorway allowing for easy access for all. There is a ramp for wheelchairs or people with walking disabilities and stairs for a quicker ascent.

Step 2: Reception

The reception area is immediately after the entrance, here people will check in, pay, and the receptionists will make sure the visitors are following Covid guidelines before allowing them past the turn stiles.

Step 3: Changing Rooms

This is the changing rooms, there are many regular stalls, along with 2 wheelchair accessible stalls. In the woman's bathroom there are baby changing stations on the walls. In each bathroom there are also sinks and mirrors, along with lockers to store valuables.

Step 4: Weight Room

This is the weight room where most exercise will take place. In this room there are treadmills, bench presses, squat racks, and assorted dumbbells and benches for miscellaneous exercises. In this room there are also water dispensers with paper cups as well as hand sanitizer bottles, and anti bacterial cleaning supplies.

Step 5: Pool and Outdoor Area

In the pool area we have an olympic sized swimming pool for regular activities, and a smaller swimming pool for rehabilitation or for people with movement disabilities. All the water in our pools are not cleaned with chemicals but rather cleaned in an outdoor pond with natural algae. The water is filtered and circulated from both pools into the algae pond to be cleaned before being filtered back into the pools. Also in there outdoor area there are spaces for yoga mats where people can perform relaxing activities with nature around them.

Step 6: Roof

On the roof we have a multitude of solar panels which absorb energy from the sun and store it in batteries, these batteries are then used to lessen our burden on the power grid and help supply the electrical needs of our facility.
