Introduction: Jurassic Park Themed Book Ends

I made this project because of my frustration with crooked books. Whenever I see a crooked bookshelf I try to fix it, but I never can. These bookends are designed to help stop the books from sliding while also adding a nice aesthetic to any room.

Supplies

Spray paint, wood, saw, glue, wood glue, Mod Podge, stencil or additional paint

Step 1: Cuting the Wood

To start, find a large piece of wood around 2 cm thick. Cut out an 11 by 8.8 centimeter block (#1). This is going to be the back of the bookend and will be facing the books. Then cut a 9.5 by 8.8 centimeter block out of the wood (#2). This piece adds stability to the bookend and supports other books. After completing this, cut out two equally sized pieces of wood around 11 by 3.7 cm (#3 and 4) These are to support decorations and are placed on the side.

Step 2: Sanding/Glue

After this, you need to sand down the wood so that it is not sharp. Then apply the glue to the edge of one of the small pieces, and attach it to the 11 by 8.8 piece. Let it sit for 30 minutes, and then repeat with the other side. Once this is finished you should have only one piece left. Glue this on and let it sit.

Step 3: Decorating

This is the step where you have more free will. The blocks need to be painted any color you want. I suggest using multiple layers of spray paint to make sure the color is nice and even around the blocks. Once the paint has dried you need to have a way of adding the logo you want. This can be painted on, stenciled, or a sticker. I used the Cricut Maker machine to create Spinosaurus skeleton stickers. This part is where you could also add your theme, it doesn't have to be Jurassic Park. Once this has been completed you can add little decorations to the bookend. To keep everything on use a layer of Mod Podge to seal everything on

Step 4: Repeat

To have a proper set of bookends you need 2. All these steps should be repeated, but when designing the second one, paint the logo so that the direction is correct.
