Intro: KEEP THE CHANGE !!!

OK i always keep my change when i buy something. some of my friends thought i was cheep until i did a little social experiment with 2 of my friends and we found the my first friend gave away 5 dollars in one day. and my second friend gave 8. THAT'S ALMOST 10 BUCKS. it kills me to hear people complain that they don't have any money while there in line in front of me and then say keep the change. so what to do.

STEP 1: Save It Up

Even if it is only a little change it will add up faster than you think. and yes it may be inconvenient to haul it around in your pocket but times are tough and you got to adapt, save, finagle, or what ever you need to do to get by. if it bothers you that much use exact change you will keep the leftover change with out creating a ton of extra change in case you fall off a pier you wont sink to the bottom in 2 seconds. I have an old pretzel jar in my room and when i get home i off load my small fortune in to it.

STEP 2: Make It Work for You

OK i admit it i get lazy and let it get full before i turn it in. but if you have $100 in change sitting in your room in a jar make it work for you. put it in a high interest savings account or what ever you want but remember it wont gain anything sitting in your room. my bank deposits small change with out a charge check with yours.

STEP 3: Things Not to Do

Don't leave them in the jar and start a new one. believe me when your have 10 jars of coins that weigh 40 pounds apiece the tellers get pissy and like i said make your money work.

Don't throw them in the friken water, i never got that. you earned this money keep it dammit.

Edit: when you turn your cash in don't do it at one of those coin star machines they charge a percentage my bank has a similar machine that does it for free. the coin star is a rip, don't give them any of YOUR cash. and

DON'T LET THEM KEEP THE CHANGE.

at a mcdonalds drive though i waited for like five minutes at the window waiting for the dude to ask why i was there i told him i wanted my one cent in change ... it was more to annoy him than the change but still..

You might also be surprised at how much money you find lying on the ground. Mostly pennies, but more and more you see sliver. Again, it might not seem like much, but I've found a dollar or more on the ground in one day. We used to keep a jar at home just for change we'd picked up off the ground. The kids love to do it. We were in the grocery store one day and my small daughter HEARD someone behind her drop a coin on the ground - she left skid marks on the floor she stopped so fast . Back she went and picked it up. Check around check-out lanes, in parking lots - anywhere people pull keys out of their pockets or make/receive change. The beach is another good place. Sounds cheap, but it's FREE MONEY!

My greatest finds are:
Found a $20 bill lying around on the streets of New Orleans and another $20 bill found inside the Office Max store and another $20 bill found near my house!

Wow! 20's x 3! They must be tossing them out around your place! I'm afraid I have too few 20's myself to lose track of one! I'd send out a search party! I have found a couple of 20's before, too. But mostly just change. Sometimes a few bills...It is fun to look though, and really great when you score a nice find! Happy hunting!

dam straight money is money. and while people used to turn there noses up at picking up loose change you might find yourself noes to noes with a broker on wall street for that quarter the way things are going lol.

you should always tip. I'm talking more about department, grocery, hardware stores etc... places that don't really allow tips. like my store where taking tips will get you fired.

Is it just America where it is the social norm to tip because in Australia no one tips in stores beside restaurant and even there it's rare to?

i know that there's jobs in America that pay like $2 an hr and you make all of your actual money through tips. that might not be true of other countries im not sure i don't get out much.

The minimum wage is about $AU 14.30 which is about US$9.70 so I guess thats a bit more than $2

people under 18 at maccas get $6.50aud... its really shiz... and no... its nice when you go to a restaurant to tip 10% or the price... most of the time its only like $5-$10 anyway...
