Key Tag Key Chain

Everywhere you go these days, they give you a tag for your key chain for savings on things at your favorite stores. They tend to become tattered and worn from being bounced around so I wanted to find some way to keep mine safe and still useful so I made a cover for them. I got the idea from here: Swivel leather key fob

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Materials

• Vinyl or leather scrap
• Eyelet or Rivet
• Bolt and nut or Chicago screw (aka, scrapbook post)
• Split ring keychain
• Heavy weight cardstock

Tools

• Sharp scissors
• Leather punch
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Marker or pen that can write on leather

Step 2: Making the Pattern

Cut a rectangle about 6½ " long and 1½ “ wide from the cardstock. Fold it in half and cut the corners of the folded end so they are even. Punch holes near the unfolded end and about ¼ inch from the folded end. This is the pattern you are going to use on the leather or vinyl scrap.

Step 3: Cutting the Leather

Lay the pattern against the leather/vinyl scrap and use the marker/pen to trace around the pattern. Be sure to mark where you will punch the holes. If you want, you can cut a strip of another color to glue to the leather as decoration or decorate as desired or leave it plain. You can also curve the corners.

Step 4: Assembly

In the hole near the folded end, put a rivet or eyelet. In the other end, you can use either a small bolt or a Chicago screw through the holes in your tags to hold them in the case.

Step 5: That's It!

Put your keys on the ring and use.
