Introduction: Kindness Rose

About: During the COVID-19 crisis, all of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship's religious services moved into an online-only format. I generally organize Sunday school activities for the children of the Fellowship …

In today's story, Généreux's kindness helped Rose to heal. Since the two of them bonded over their love of roses, let's make some simple paper roses to remind us how helpful it can be to be kind.

Supplies

-construction paper

-white glue

-scissors

-round container or lid

-pencil

Step 1: Cut Out a Circle.

First, decide what color you'd like your rose to be. I decided to make mine blue, but yours can be any color. Find a lid or an empty container that is circular. This is an easy way to trace a circle! A bigger circle will make a bigger rose. I used an empty hummus container for mine.

Trace the circle with your pencil, and then cut out the circle.

Step 2: Cut the Circle Into a Spiral.

Take the paper circle and follow it around in a spiral with your scissors all the way to the center. Now your circle is a spiral!

Step 3: Wrap the Spiral Into a Rose.

Put a dot of white glue right next to the center of your spiral. Curl the center around into a little cone, sticking it in place with the glue. Now, follow the inside of the spiral with a thin line of glue a little at a time, wrapping the spiral around the central cone. Each time you wrap, move the edge up a little bit so that each turn moves the top of the cone upwards. This will make it look like petals!

Once you are finished, you'll have a layered cone of paper that looks like a rose. It's okay if it's a little uneven. Flowers are never perfect!

Set it aside to dry.

Step 4: Make a Leaf Base.

Draw a pair of leaves on another color of paper. I used green, but your leaves can be any color. Cut them out.

Step 5: Glue the Rose to the Leaves.

Once the rose is dry, you can put a big dot of glue on the center of the leaves and stick your rose onto it. Let it dry.

Now you have a rose! You can make as many as you like.
