Introduction: Kissing Cards
Cards are always a good thing to make for special occasions. They're pretty easy, and even though they might end up being cheaper than the ones you can buy in the shops, that little personal touch is priceless!
Here's one I designed for Valentine's day.
Step 1: Getting Your Materials Together
You will need:
- Card - A4 size
- Scissors
- Pencil - a light one that you can rub out or colour over so it won't show
- Ruler
This card requires you to be able to draw a face. So if you aren't sure of your artistic abilities you might also want the template below. Or, in its original size, here: https://www.instructables.com/files/orig/F2V/H9LP/FCTI5KUQ/F2VH9LPFCTI5KUQ.bmp
Step 2: Cutting and Folding the Card
Lay the sheet of A4 paper in front of you longways, like a landscape painting, and cut a strip about 12cm (about 4 3/4") wide.
Now measure about 8cm ( roughly 3") in from one end and draw a line across the strip. Draw another line about 1cm (a little less than 1/2") further along. Do the same from the opposite end of the strip.
Now crease the innermost lines by folding the edges of the strip into the middle. Unfold the card and then do the same with the outer lines, except this time leave the edges folded into the middle.
Step 3: Making Faces
Now you should have the basic shape of your card, with two flaps that overlap in the centre.
Take the top flap and draw the outline of a face on it. Make sure that the lips of the face are slightly open and are on a part of the flap that overlaps with the one underneath.
Once you have your face outline, cut it out and close the card up again.
Now lightly trace the outline of the top face's lips and nose onto the lower flap.
Draw a face on the second flap, using the line you just traced as a guide for the mouth and nose. Again, make sure the lips are slightly open.
Cut the second face out and close the card up again, only this time make it so that the faces kiss. Hopefully they will stay that way.
If they spring apart then try to keep them together by playing with the creases, and the size of the gap in the lips.
If that fails it probably wasn't meant to be. You may have to cut your card in two and let each half go their separate ways.
Step 4: Decorate!
Now you have a card that will kiss all day long, except it's a little plain looking.
All you need to do is decorate it! Make the faces look like you and your partner, draw a funky pattern on the inside that will show up between the kissing faces, cover the whole thing in sweet nothings and soppy poetry... it's entirely up to you.
One thing I do suggest is going over the edges of the faces with a black marker, just so that they stand out better.
Of course you don't even have to do kissing faces. I'm sure there are any number of things that can be done with the interlocking halves of the card, this just seemed the most appropriate for Valentines!
Have fun!

Hmm I wish I had a girlfriend right now to give this to, but perhaps I should just send it to random girls I know and see what kind of response I get.

OK, what am I doing wrong that my pic didn't post???
Reply 10 years ago on Introduction
How did you go about posting it?

I went to add images, then (upload, My computer) and Browse. My pic uploaded and had the word "add" under it. I clicked on "add" which I assumed would add it to the post, but apparently it didn't.
The "upload" tab has a box in the center and, in orange writing says "Upload new images/files using the Browse button above"...but the Browse button is NOT above, it's below. Not that that should change whether something uploads or not.
Now, if I try to re-upload the card, it's apparently somewhere in the system because it says "kiss card.jpg" and then [remove} in orange which seems
to suggest the pic is there somewhere. There's a small circle to the left of the words "kiss card.jpg" that looks as if you are supposed to click on it, but it's greyed out and can't be clicked. When I go to "my library" it's empty.

Hmm. I don't know what's wrong there. I get an option to try the new flash uploader. Perhaps that will work.
If that fails then you could upload it to something like imageshack and then post a link on here.
