Intro: Kitchen Tablet-mount From Sugru

Want to check recipes in the kitchen or watch Netflix as you wash the dishes... mount a tablet to a cupboard door.

STEP 1: Location

I didn't want to see the mount when not in use so I made it on the inside of the cupboard door.
When putting it on the inside you have to be careful not to have anything lined up with the inside shelf. A door isn't much good if it won't close. :-)
The first step was to hold up the tablet to mark a general location. At this point I was only concerned about locating the bottom edge. I used a straight edge to identify a level line and marked the location for the bottom two supports, spaced about an inch inside each corner of the tablet.

STEP 2: Make the Bottom Supports

I taped a straw to my guide line to use as a thickness guide.
I used half a pack of Sugru for each support. Mush it up, press firmly into position and shape as desired.
After I had the general shape I removed the straw and held the tablet in place to verify the thickness.
A little reshaping was needed to ensure the tablet would sit well in the supports. The fit in the bottom ones is critical to keep it from slipping out and hitting the floor if you bump the door.
Let it cure till the next day.

STEP 3: Top Supports

This step was even easier. I put the tablet in place and used Scotch tape at the top to hold it in place. Don't cover the location on the door surface where your sports will be located. I also placed tape in the exact position on the tablet where my top supports would be located. I didn't want Sugru sticking to the face of my tablet.
I used half a pack of Sugru for each support. Mush it up, press firmly into place and shape as desired.
Let that cure for little while at least before removing the tablet. I stuck some straws in there again to ensure the top supports didn't droop too much.
Let it cure for a day.

STEP 4: Enjoy

Done! and Done!

Now I get to watch some Netflix while I'm cleaning up, doing dishes, or cooking.

looks really rasy to do.Thank you

Did I just get hijacked by @projectsugru by posting your how-to on my how-to? :-P

Actually it's a much better guide than mine as you have pictures going through the process. I didn't think to do the how-to until months later. Thank you.

I really like this idea but, am confused as to what holds the brackets into place on the cabinet door? If the sugru is just pushed to the door and hardens there, is the stuff strong enough to hold the weight?

The Sugru is a adhesive / cured silicone rubber. There really isn't any issues with the small weight of a tablet.
check this out.

Cool!! I thought that sugru was like the stuff they use to mold custom ear-plugs out of. That stuff is like 2 parts that are kneaded together to harden but can't really stick to anything. I didn't think my question would get flak from the manufacturer though!:-P

Surely no flak was intended ;0)

hi @gunguru Sugru bonds to most materials and when cured they are strong enough to hold your tablet, but stay nice and rubbery and a little flexible. http://sugru.com/guides/make-an-ipad-wall-mount

Yeah, I really didn't need to use two supports on top as it only needs to hold the weight of the tablet tilting outword.

That's awesome! Inside of the cupboard is a really clever use of space! Is that Suits you're watching? :)

lol, it's White Collar actually. ☺

Here's another take! Awsome!
