Question: what tubing do you think is best for building a knex ball machine?

in some cases the old orange tubing is better. due to the thinner radius, you can make tighter corners with the track. also, in a general 2 orange connectors on a blue rod type path, the ball lies deeper within an orange tubing based path, making it more stable. besides that, the ball holds more tortional energy, so it makes for a general slower, but not nescesary more energy loosing type of pathing.

I came to the same conclusion. It also looks good w/ the gold connectors :P

I think the rollercoaster tubing because it's strong.

(But I haven't got that many of that)

AMAZING ball machine! :-D A great way to kick off the "ball machine season" (a.k.a. summer); makes me want to continue my next ball machine! I would list what I liked the most, but the list is already overflowing. I especially commend you on the elevator and crane lifts: I have tried both before, but neither one successfully. Makes yours all the more impressive! ;-)
