Knex Motor Modification

Intro: Knex Motor Modification

Are you having the red battery motor of knex and are tired of changing batteries all the time? This is the solution! With this you modify the motors to ones to be plugged in!

STEP 1: Gather Materials

First gather the materials.

STEP 2: Prepare the Cable

First you preper the cable.

STEP 3: Unscrew the Motor

Now you unscrew the motor. You just need that red half.

STEP 4: Prepare the Red Lead

Veary simple, just screwing a hole.

STEP 5: Using the Soldering Gun

Soldering gun

STEP 6: Putting It Together

After you made this step you'll have to put 3Volt on the other end of the cable. Polarity is irrelevant because it still goes through the switch.

Is it possible to install a demultiplexer so the motor can run on batteries or by ac-dc transformer plug in
I don't know what you mean with the first half but as long as you don't put enery through the new wires you put there you can still run it via batteries. I don't know if it is a good idea to run it at the same time via power plug AND batteries...
You must know that you are just adding a new function to your motor when making this.
A demultiplexer is basicly a switch that runs between two outputs
Ah, ok.
The modification is just as if you'd put at the contacts where the batteries are the wires.
It's just somehow nicer IMO the way in the ible
Somewhat similar to an Instructable I made.
You mean that making the knex motor faster? Yeah. :)
Yeah but It's ok.

How much miliamperes does your adapter produce at 3 volts?
1500 milliampere. It also still woks when I put 7 motors in parallel. :)
Woah that's about 4.5 Watts of pure electricity going through one motor.
Better if you use smaller ones because the one you're using is very powerful it could burn a motor in minutes, mine is about 150Ma and it smelled bad after minutes of testing.
oh, sorry, it doesn't say the exact amount at 3Volt, you can tune it up to 12 V and THEN you have 1.5 Amper. :)
way cool....now you could leave something on overnight
nice mod but I honestly can't be bothered! :-P
Nice ible though! 4.5*
Nice! But I'll probably stick with the plug-in motors Knex makes, because I don't have a soldering iron.
Oh, I see. Mabe It'll also work whey you twist the cable around that place you'll have to solder, but i think not so good.
