Introduction: Knitting Baby Blankets
Diagonal Pattern Baby Blanket
I knit baby blankets for nieces, nephews, and friends when they have new babies. My favorite pattern is an easy garter stitch on the diagonal called appropriately "Diagonal Pattern Baby Blanket" from Lion Brand Yarn. The two yarns that I like to use are Lion Brand Homespun and Red Hearts Baby Clouds because they make such an adorably soft blanket. I have made 12 blankets in the past two years and everyone loves them because they are so soft. And I like to make them because they are so quick and easy to make. Finished size is roughly 36". I use size 11" needles on the Homespun and 13" or 15" needles on the Baby Clouds.

I’m sorry but I can’t find it on the website. There is a pattern that uses 2 colors at the same time. Is that the same pattern for just one color? I’m sorry to be such a dunce!

If you click on that link I posted above it will take you straight to the pattern. The multi colors are from variegated yarn. I posted this quite a few years ago and have since changed my favorite yarn to baby yarn from Hobby Lobby. I don't have any on hand so can't tell you the name but I can stop by there tomorrow and find out. I've attached a pdf of the pattern

Thank you for trying so hard to help me. I couldn’t open your PDF or link. I was able to find the pattern by googling it. I’m very excited to start. I only have 2 rolls of Homespun but this is my first try.
I’ll try your Hobby Lobby yarn next time.
Thank you again!

I usually use 3 skeins of Homespun. And 5 skeins of the Hobby Lobby yarn. that way the blanket is 36" square. 2 skeins will make a smaller blanket. I'm glad you were able to find the blanket on the Lion Brand website. It's an easy blanket and everyone I've given it to has raved about it. Good luck!

I checked Hobby Lobby and the yarn I used to use is no longer stocked. They do have several baby yarns in bulky (5) weight so I think any of those would work. I bought some called Baby Bee My Sweet Love and am going to make a blanket for my niece from that. I'm sure it will work just as well as the other yarn I used to use. Good luck on your knitting!

Any ratios?

The blanket says knitted and you mention size 11 needles, however when clicking on the pattern, it is for Crochet. Is there a knitting instruction?

I have made several of this baby blankets, sometimes I use Lion yarns, sometimes I don't, and sometimes I use "baby colors" and sometimes I don't as many new mothers prefer primary colors or bright colors, but every time they are beautiful.

Thanks for the primary colors idea. I hadn't thought of that but that's a good idea. That way they can continue to use them as the child grows.
