LED Hotwheels

Heres how to turn your favorite hotwheels car into an awesome light-up display or night light.

Step 1:

To take apart the car, you must first turn the car over and drill out the mounting rivets that hold the car together.

Step 2:

Next we use masking tape to cover the car up so you dont scratch it all up.

Step 3:

For this step you prep the car for the holes that will be drilled out for the head and tail lights.

Step 4:

Now drill your holes.

Step 5:

Next we add some leds to the car.  I used some five minute epoxy to glue the leds in place.


The circuit is pretty simple series / parallel combination.  The parts needed are::

- 2 red leds (tail lights)... i used red 3mm
- 2 white leds (head lights). . .i used some small blue smd that i had
- 1    150 ohm resistor 1/2 watt
- 1    9 volt battery
-  some wire

Step 6:

Here you wire it up using this schematic. Then modify the windshield and seats of the car so that the resistor and leds fit when they are assembled.

Step 7:
