Hey Internet! This is my first Instructable so please tell me how it is! Today we are going to make a LED light saber! It is super easy to make and can be done quickly. All you need for this is two to three jumbo straws or smoothie straws ( depending on how long you want it to be), one LED ( you choose which color) one 3 volt coin cell battery, 7 Popsicle sticks ( preferably without the Popsicle on it! ), scissors and some tape.

Step 1: The Handle

The first step is to make the handle. Take the seven Popsicle sticks and stack them.Now tape them together ( make sure you still have tape left! ). Now you have a handle for your light saber!. You can embellish or decorate it if you like.

Step 2: It's All Down to the Electronics

Next, bend the longer leg (positive side) of the LED up. Place the LED on one end of the Popsicle stick stack as shown in the picture (the negative leg down). Place the battery with negative side down on top of the negative side of the LED (See picture). Now tape the battery to secure in place making sure to leave enough space for the positive leg of the LED to touch the battery. Now whenever you push the LED leg down, the LED should light up.

Wrap the end of the positive leg of LED with a little tape so its not sharp (but make sure there enough of the leg exposed to touch the battery.

Step 3: Light Saber

Slide one of the jumbo straws around the LED but make sure that you don't push the LED back. Tape down that straw to the Popsicle stack. Tape the other two straws end to end to the first one so its one long straw. This is the saber part of it. Now the Light saber is fully assembled!

Step 4: Light Saber

Now try it out in a dark room. Press the LED leg to touch the battery and the light saber is on!!! In our experience blue LEDs worked better but others look cool too.
