Step 1: Introduction

Controlling LED strips is made easy by using the individually addressable LEDs like the SK6812.

The SK6812 consists of a 5050 RGB LED type in which the very compact SK6812 LED driver IC is integrated.

Depending on the intensity of the three individual Red, Green, and Blue LEDs we can simulate any color.

Chaining these LEDs allows the generation of amazing and complex effects in a simple way.

This article is a show case of controlling one SK6812 LED.

Step 2: Schematics

The SK6812 footprint is included in Kicad library.

A simple schematics is edited using the Microchip ATMeaga328 as a brain of the design.

Routing a simple design is fast with Kicad.

Just a few components are needed for this simple board.

Coding is made simple since the wonderful Open Source FASTLED library is used.

A 7 seconds viedo is included to show the SK6812 in action.
