Introduction: LED Throwies-Castilleja School
Hey Guys! Today I am going to teach you how to make an LED throwie. A throwie includes an LED, a battery for the LED, and a magnet. This means that you can throw a lit-up LED at a magnetic object, and it will stick! All you have to do is follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Here are the materials you will need to make an LED throwie:
1 LED
1 1/2''-1'' diameter disc magnet
1 Coin cell battery
Electrical tape
Step 2: Attach the LED to the Battery
First, insert the battery between the two legs of the LED. CAREFUL! It matters which leg is touching the positive/negative terminal of the battery. The longer leg, which is the anode, should be touching positive (+) terminal of the battery, while the shorter leg, which is the cathode, should be touching the negative (-) terminal of the battery. You can tell you have connected it right when your LED lights up.
Step 3: Put Electrical Tape Around the Battery and the LED
To keep the LED attached to the battery, wrap electrical tape around the legs of your LED and battery. Please note which side of the battery is the positive terminal.
Step 4: Attach Your Magnet to Your Battery
After your have wrapped the battery in electrical tape, place the magnet on the positive (+) terminal of your battery. You can then wrap the magnet in electrical tape if you choose.
Congratulations, you now have your own LED throwie!
