If your gun doesn't shoot far, re-enforce it with technic parts. Also, follow the instructions well, don't say: "eh I'll just use this instead". changing it might make it flaw and not work as wanted. After you reinforce it, make the rubber bands more powerful. But for that to work, it needs to be well reinforced.
