Introduction: LandMarkKam

During the beginning of the semester I was confused. I didn't know what I wanted to make out of this pay phone. My suggestion would be to do one or more of the following:

  1. Brainstorm
    • place all your ideas into a piece of paper
  2. Interest
    • your project will come out better if you focus on something that you really care for or enjoy.
  3. Plan
    • After you have an idea of what you would like to create make sure your proposal is one that can be created in a timely manner.
    • Try to start simple and become more creative only if you have time.
  4. Dream big but be realistic
    • You're going to want to transform your payphone into a variety of extraordinary things, be sure to be realistic with your plans.
    • Don't bite off more than you can chew, as it is very easy to dream big.
  5. Timeline
    • Once you have decided on an idea, begin a timeline that pushes you to stay on track.
    • Be sure to meet your deadlines.
    • Contact USC officials with time if you plan to display your prototype outdoors
    • Make sure everyone is putting in their part.
    • Finally, don't forget to have fun

Step 1: Soldering Our Hearts Away!

You will be soldering your very own computer!

In other words, that Rasberry Pi that you are soldering might be the one used to power your payphone.

Make sure to be gentle while soldering. The pieces actually break!

The recipe to great soldering, at least in my opinion is:

  • Patience
  • Fine motor skills (Many of us have shaky hands but if you solder carefully you will not have a problem)
  • Attention to detail (One must have a good view in order to make a clean seal)
  • Have fun melting medal (Can you believe this is a computer!)

Step 2: Who Is Your Target Audience?

In any presentation that we create we must always have a target audience!

Come up with a variety of people that would use your prototype.

Doing this will help you decide where you would like to display your payphone.

This activity also shows you what features you would like to keep and which ones are less valuable.

Step 3: Get Working!

Once you have the planning process set start getting your hands dirty, literally.

Make sure to leave all the painting to the very end as it might get scratched.

Sketch out ideas that you have, how it is that you invasion your payphone to look.

If you draw these sketches and color them in they help you figure out what is that you would like best without wasting money on time.

Make sure to use paint according to the location you will be placing your prototype. We used paint that was specifically for metal and outdoors.

Step 4: The Finished Product!

Your project may not end as you had imagined or it might be better than you had hoped. The point is that you have to follow through with your plans. Don't get intimidated for not knowing how to do something. Everyone is there to help and you are there to learn.

Step 5:
