Introduction: Lap Blanket With Foot Pockets
Create a warm and cozy lap blanket with foot pockets in just a few easy steps. Great for keeping warm while on the computer, doing homework, or relaxing on the couch. My kids call it a "Snuggie for your feet"!
Step 1: Materials
Materials your will need:
1. 4 1/2 yards of fabric- I chose flannel for it's softness
2. 1 twin-size batting- I used low-loft batting because I didn't want it too thick, but you can choose any thickness
3. tape measure
4. scissors
5. matching thread
6. sewing machine
Step 2: Cutting the Fabric and Batting
Cut the selvages off your fabic to create a width of about 40-42" wide.
Then cut the fabric in half across the width to create two equal pieces- about 80" in length.
Cut the batting to match your fabric measurements. *You will have a lot of batting left over to use for small projects :)
You should now have two pieces of fabric and one piece of batting all the same size.
Step 3: Preparing to Sew
Place right sides of fabric together. Then batting on top of the wrong side of one of the fabrics.
Step 4: Sew, Sew, Sew!!
-Sew all three layers together using a 1/2" seam allowance. Make sure you leave a large enough opening at the end for turning.
-Next, turn the fabric right sides out using your opening then stitch closed.
-Topstitch around the edge of your blanket using a 1/4" seam allowance.
- To make sure the batting stays in place, sew equal length rows down your blanket lengthwise. I stitched 4 rows 10 inches apart. You can make your rows closer together to create a more quilted look.
Step 5: Creating the Foot Pockets!
To create the foot pockets, turn the bottom of the blanket up about 20". Then topstitch down the middle and on the sides.
Step 6: Enjoy!
Your finished!! Now relax and stay warm with your new lap blanket.
