Introduction: Lap Table and Decorative Cushion

About: Hi :) Thank you, humbly for taking the time to explore my projects. I thoroughly enjoy learning and working with my hands, and hope that you find what I create, and the intentions behind them both worth your …

There are times when I'd rather not have to leave the comforts of my own sofa (or bed) just to use the computer, eat, or even read.

Using leftover materials fr other projects, u can create some lap pillow that doubles as a table of sorts...

Step 1: Materials:

-Thin board of wood
-Foam
-Batting
-Fabric

No need to mention tools here; it's a fairly intuitive Instructable!

Just:

Cut the thin board of ply wood to the shape you desire for your desk. Make two of these.

Cut the foam pad to match the shape of the desk.

Cut the the padding slightly bigger than the foam (enough to engulf/cover the full thickness of the foam).

Cut the fabric even bigger than the batting.

Step 2: Assemble!

Lay the foam onto the board.

Cover the foam with batting.

Cover the batting with the fabric (don't forget to center the pattern on the fabric if it's geometric or has a high repetition in the pattern).

Pull the fabric edges over and under the wooden board, staple the edges into place, and trim the excess material.

Step 3: Velcro

I put Velcro underneath the desk pad at this point.

Step 4: Prep the Table Top

With the second ply wood board sanded around its edges (to prevent splinters), I match the outline and attach it underneath the board (via the Velcro pads).

Done!:)

Step 5: Uses...

This doubles as a nice accent pillow --just flip it around and show off your fabric-choosing skills!

Then, if you need a functional tray, flip it around with the desk-top side!

Pat yourself on the back for a job well done...

:)

Namaste and happy 2016!
