Intro: Laptop Hologram

This project is made for the TfCD course of the IPD master of Industrial Design Engineering (TUDelft).

Introduction

This instructable shows you how to make a hologram for medium sized screens, laptop and small desktop screens for instance. The model we will be making uses reflection to create a hologram image. Four images our movieclips displayed on your screen will be reflected into a holographic 3D image inside the transparent pyramid. Because of this, the hologram model only works in a dark room.

What do you need?

  • Ruler
  • Pencil/Pen
  • Painting tape
  • Plastic glue
  • Snap-off blade or cutting machine
  • Transparent plastic sheet (285mm x 210mm)

STEP 1: Create Building Plan

Draw the construction of the 4 sides of the pyramid on the plastic sheet
(We used a sheet of 360mm x 210mm so we had some margin on the sides, which are not necessary).

STEP 2: Cutting

Cut the plastic sheet to end up with the 4 sides of the pyramid.

STEP 3: Tape and Glue

Use painting tape to connect the 4 sides of the pyramid, then use the plastic glue for a permanent connection.

STEP 4: Finishing Touch

Remove the painting tape and clean the pyramid of dust and finger prints.

STEP 5: Use the Hologram

Search on YouTube for: Hologram video

Put the video on full screen and place the plastic piramid, with the small surface down, in the middle of the screen.

Going to give this a go! Any tips before I start from anyone who has actually made this? Does it look as awesome in real life as it does in pic? Any tips from actually bulging would be great-like anything I should take particular care with.
Thanks in advance.
