Introduction: Lasagna Garden
How to create a Lasagna Garden: Janko, Riv, and Jake.
Step 1: Step 1
Step 1: Prep Ground
Get grass as short as possible, and leave fresh cut grass on the ground.
For our example, we will use a raised bed garden.
Step 2: Step 2
Step 2: Make Layer 1
Cover lawn with first decomposable layer. Remember to make each layer 1 to 2 inches loosely thick. Also make sure to permeate materials. You can start with a newspaper or cardboard.
For our example we used newspaper.
Step 3: Step 3
Step 3: Layers
Make each layer 1 to 2 inches thick. Add alternating layers of dead leaves and green leaves. After about two feet of this, start adding biodegradable materials. For example, grass clippings, coffee grounds and herbivorous manures.
Step 4: Step 4
Step 4: Let it be
You can upturn the garden, but for the most part just let it go. You can speed up the process by adding a plastic tarp over the garden. After a few weeks the soil underneath should be ready to plant.

Very clever title! Although this is more of a compost pile, right?

It is a compost pile, but the lasagna garden is more about the timing than anything. I view a compost pile as more of a random, well, pile. The lasagna garden is more about the layering, and it is a timed, planned process.
