This week, we're making laser cutting, engraving and UV printing paper bookmarks using our Trotec Speedy 300 laser cutting machine and our Mutoh ValueJet 426UF UV printer.

We engrave and cut on thick coloured paper.

We engrave and cut on wood paper.

We UV print synthetic white paper (thin plastic) and then cut out the shapes.

Step 1: Coloured Paper - Laser Cut and Engrave

Engrave your image files that are RGB Black fill in the artwork files. The laser then automatically starts cutting based on the RGB red hairline outline in the artwork files

Laser: Trotec Speedy 100 80w
Engrave: 25 power, 100 speed
Cut: 40 power, 3 speed

Step 2: Cutting the Clear Paper

We then take our Synthetic Clear paper that we use as a laminate and cut it out using the RGB Blue hairline outline the artwork files.

We use it as a laminate to make sure the coloured paper inside doesn't rip.

Step 3: Putting It Together

We then take the 3M adhesive cover off of 2 of our Synthetic Clear Laser Paper. Place and glue our Coloured Paper in between the two clear papers.

We then tie a ribbon in the slot of the clear paper and we're done!

Step 6: Laminate and Put Together

Repeat Step 2 and 3: Laser cut the synthetic clear paper, take off the 3M adhesive and stick the wood paper in between the two laminates (synthetic clear paper) and then put a ribbon through it.

Step 7: UV Printing

We next make our coloured bookmarks using our Synthetic White laser paper.

We place our paper into our Mutoh 426UF UV printer and print our design.

We make sure to print our registration marks which our 0.25" in diameter, RGB Black filled in our artwork file with a RGB Black hairline outline.

Step 8: Laser Cutting

The JobControl Vision Camera system reads the registration marks and cuts exactly where we need it to based on RGB red hairline outline in the artwork file.

Step 10: And You're Done!

You can either print on clear synthetic paper, in which case the image will be a mirrored reflection on the opposite side. Or print on white synthetic paper where the background will be white.
