Introduction: Laser Cut Mining Dump Truck Toy

With a young child enamored with vehicles of all types, I have previously built a laser cut front end loader and now have added to that a laser cut mining dump truck detailed here.  Laser cut from 1/8" baltic birch with a few dowels for axles and pivots and held together with wood glue the result is pretty sturdy.  The assembly measures about 9 inches long, 5.5 inches wide and 5 inches tall, has rolling wheels and pivoting dump bed.  The dump truck is scaled to be a companion piece to the front end loader but is easier to assemble without all the linkages.  Next in the series may be an excavator, or maybe something completely different. The design is loosely based on the Cat 785D mining truck.  Design time in Solidworks was about 30 hours, cut time about 45 minutes, and assembly around 3 hours.  Let me know what you think!

As with the front end loader I've put the plans and even the ability to get cut parts for sale through Wooden Marvels.

A bunch of folks have bought the plans from Wooden Marvels, and I have gotten feedback from some who have built or attempted to build it. I have not seen any personally though.

I've built additional units myself for gifts, but I don't think that counts.
