Intro: Laser Cut Wooden Name Sign

What you need:

  • A design idea - I used the Tiny font
  • A computer and graphics program to create the pdf
  • Wood - I used oak (again)
  • Laser cutter - Usually at your local fablab/workerspace

STEP 1: Create the Pdf and Cut

The lines need to be about 0.3mm apart.

The laser I used needed the lines to be 0.02mm thick.

Use ~2.5x the speed (or 40% the power) you'd normally use to cut through the wood.

STEP 2: Sand Down and Remove Thin Bits Inside the Letters

I used a small screw driver to remove thin pieces of wood inside the letters.

STEP 3: Finish

I used oil. I'll mount it on the door with double sided tape.

Great! The different fonts also seem to work quite interesting next to each other!

Thanks - yep, contrast between maskuline and feminine but they're for my cousin and a friend so will be hung on three different doors though :)
