Intro: Lego Safe

2/13/2012. This will show you how to make a Lego Safe in less than 10 minutes. The main reason for this is decoration, and I wouldn't use this as a actual safe to keep money in. The skill for this project is beginner...all you need is some Lego's!

Hint: If the images don't show up when you click on them and you are using Firefox then disable adblock and they should work!

STEP 1: Materials

This is exactly what you need (the image) to make this...there are a LOT of 2 by 4's so
you actually need 37 2 by 4's!!!
So just look at the image and yeah...

STEP 2: The Mechanism

This is probably the hardest part yet...you have to make the mechanism. Follow the pictures and look at the notes on them to get this right! It's not that hard, you just need to do exactly as I show you.

STEP 3: The Frame and the Door

Now that you made your mechanism you need to cover it up...follow the pictures and read the notes!

STEP 4: Finish

And here you are!

I love Legos and I can appreciate the effort that went into it, but what do you do with it when it is done?
I mean obviosly a tile sticks halfway out when you turn the key, but how does that make this a safe? Does the piece come all the way out so you can put something behind it?
And how the turn mechanism transfers to the door is not shown or explained. Is ther some way that it is connected so that merely turning the thing on its side will not make the piece fall out?
The turn mechanism could easily be seen to make a part go back and forth, but that is perpendicular to the part that pops out.
I can't figure out the connection. Sorry, I am usually good at this type of thing, I am just not getting it.
Please add a couple notes of explaination. I am really curious. amd would like to understand this creation of your inventive mind.

look...
first: when it's done it's like for decoration. (I talked about that)
second: the "tile" holds the door shut. ( there is a hole in the door for that "tile"to go it)
third: the piece can't fall out if you tilt it.
forth: I will try to add a explanation to the mechanism.

(You know I didn't really register the amount of pictures you put up until I kept going back to the series of pictures. That is one big batch of pictures to mess with!)
I just came back with a further clarification of my question...
Yes I know it is not a real safe and I understand you are demonstraiting how to make one... And now I understand that this is the door lock side mechanism of a safe... I think.
What is missing, is what connects the movement from back and forth, by means of the little cog handle, to the thrust out movement of the tile.
The fourteenth picture in Step 2 shows the last moving piece added.... the handle cog thingy. Picture 16 is the last picture of the mechanism and you havent even started the part that will hold the sliding tile. So there is no explaination of the transfer of movement.
The back and forth movement could thrust a tile out into the small sample chamber, but that by itself would not make the front tile pop out.

You have a perfect understanding of what you are doing, while I have never seen one before now.
I am not critisizing, far from it, I am admiring the cleverness of it, I just want to understand how it was accomplished.
Please be patient with me,...inquiring grandmas want ot know! LOL

Picture 4 Step 2 should answer your question. The "key" is inserted into the long gray piece in the first picture of Step three. Turning the key thus turns the spiral from Picture 4 Step 2, making it "push" the tile outwards.

This may or may not be correct, but I am fairly certain.

if you go trough all the steps and look at all the pictures one by one it will be super easy!

No offence, but i agree with 'chrystalkay' Its not a real safe, i recently made a safe with a 5-combination-pin and electronically assisted door, and a light comes on when you open it, that is what i call a safe, the photo i have attached is my mechanism, if you want more info, email me; TheEpicXP@gmail.com
