Introduction: Lego USB Drive

I created my own Lego USB Drive, I used the instructions that ianhampton did, here is a link to it. Here is what I did to make it.

Other tutorials used silicon to fill the inside, I used a 2 part epoxy. I just got the wrong thing but it works just as well and it is SOLID.

I'm going to be making a cap for it. Its becoming a pain because trying to line it up and fill it so it can go on.

Step 1: List of Parts & Tools

Parts List

- Cruzer mini USB Flash Drives
- 1 x 1 Tile
- 1 x 8 Plate
- 2 x 8 Plate
- 1 x 6 Brick
- 2 x 3 Brick
- 2 x 6 Brick

Tools (Not Shown)

- Exacto Knife
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Krazy Glue Pen
- Quick Set 2 part Epoxy
- Disposable cup or container to mix epoxy
- Rubber Surgical Gloves
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Rag

Step 2: Cutting the Bricks

Using the exacto knife I cut all the bricks. I also used the needle nose pliers to remove some of the bigger pieces and then cleaned up the rest with the knife.

Step 3: Pre Glue Prep

Other tutorials say thay had to use a steady hand while the glue set. I use some 1 x 1 round bricks and a 1 x 4 brick with a 6 x 12 plate to hold it while the glue set. I used the round 1 x 1 bricks to lessen the chances that the glue would get on the bricks. It only happened to one of them.

Step 4: Gluing the Bricks Together

Using the crazy glue pen put glue on each piece and put it on the plate. I used the circles under the plate to hold the parts better.

I know Crazy glue sets and hardens quickly, but I sell let it sit over night.

Step 5: Cutting the Opening for the USB Drive Connector

Most other tutorials show just cutting from the bottom, I was not about to do that. This was the hardest part to get it lined up correctly. I just carefully kept lining up the connector and using the knife to scribe a line to go by. Mine is not perfect but I think it came out good. I had to keep cutting and scraping to get the connector through the slot.

Step 6: Assembly

I took a 1 x 1 tile and glued it in side to act as a support to hold the USB drive at the correct height.

YOU WILL NEED RUBBER GLOVES FOR THIS STEP

Next Insert the USB Drive in and position it and fill with epoxy, do not over fill. Sorry there are no pictures for this. I had to be quick with the epoxy. Do not over fill, and after you have enough epoxy put the 1 x 8 and 2 x 8 pieces on the back and CAREFULLY and I can not stress this enough, be careful, it will get very warm, as the epoxy sets. You will need to hold it for about 10 minutes. I built a jig out of other Lego's to hold it.

As the epoxy sets you might get some run off, this is where you might want to have some Rubbing Alcohol and a rag to wipe up excess run off that might seep out of the side.

Step 7: Completed Lego USB Drive
