Introduction: Lexus Car Logo

You can craft a Lexus Car logo over but a few evenings, and the costs will be minimal.

Step 1: Cut the Planks

To make the logo, you will need 85x8x350 mm alder planks. It is imperative that all planks have the same color.

Cut the planks into smaller ones (8х40х350 mm) using a chopsaw.

Trim them on a thickness planer. It is advisable to use an underlay, because processing a thin work piece may result in tear-outs.

Step 2: Gluing

The gluing process comprises two stages. The first one is edge-to-edge gluing. It is mandatory that all pieces be minimally different in color, and grain direction should be considered as well. Remove excess glue with a damp sponge. Wait until the glue dries. Now we have three identical boards.

Once the glue dries completely, finish the boards with a hand scraper or sander and thus prepare them for the second stage of gluing.

This stage implies gluing the boards face to face into a single piece. Alternating grain direction (same as with plywood) is a must. Wait for the glue to dry completely.

Step 3: Cut Out

Browse a car logo website for the Lexus logo. Print it out on a sheet of paper. Copy it onto your work piece. You can use either carbon paper or spray glue.

Cut out the logo itself. You can use a portable or power jigsaw, as well as a narrow band saw. It is very important to trace the logo’s contour exactly. Please, do not throw away the internal parts. Later you will use them as spacers when trimming the outer edge.

Step 4: Finishing

Start from the outer edges, then go over to the inner ones. Trim the outer edge with a radius cutter featuring a R-series bearing (5 mm), and the inner one – with a chamfering cutter featuring a 450 bearing. Finish internal corners with flat or semi-circular chisels. Do the final trimming using a burring machine (wood engraver). Then do the finishing. Start with 80-grit sandpaper, then gradually scale grit size down to 150-grit.

Step 5: Oiling It

Put two layers of oil on your logo: first comes transparent oil, second – colored oil. Wait for it to dry completely.

The logo is finished.
