Intro: Life Hack : Clean Your Microwave

Nobody likes cleaning out that gross, burnt-on foodstuff in the microwave. Here is the simplest way how you can clean your microwave.

It’s easy to do, only takes about five minutes, and it works great! I love simple cleaning solutions like this. This tip for cleaning a microwave is just simple. It only requires water, vinegar, and lemon.

So here you go! Get a sparkling clean Microwave within minutes.

No big labor involved. :)

Happy Cleaning!

STEP 1:

Time for the clean up: 10 minutes

Materials:

1 lemon

1 microwave-safe bowl

Dry towel

1 Tbsp - Vinegar

1 Cup - Water

STEP 2:

Fill a microwaveable bowl with water and vinegar.

Squeeze lemon and add the juice into the bowl of water.

STEP 3: Microwave

Put the bowl in the microwave and shut the door. Microwave on high power for 3 minutes so the liquid comes to a boil.

STEP 4: Let It Shut!

If your microwave is really dirty and you have real stubborn stains that wont come out easily go for this step.

Leave the door of the microwave closed for 5 minutes even after the timer goes off.

Let the steam continue to work.

The steam will help loosen up stubborn food particles, and the vinegar will help eliminate any odors.

The steam trapped inside will help loosen food particles.

STEP 5: Cleaning!

Wipe the inside of the microwave clean starting with the ceiling and the sides.

When you open be careful with the bowl. It will be really hot.

Remove the turntable tray. It will be hot too. Wash it in the sink.

Don't forget the door. Wipe it with a towel.

Dip the corner of your towel in the lemon-water and scrub until the stubborn dirt spot comes away.

STEP 6:

With a cloth or sponge wipe the inside of the microwave clean.

The dirt will come out easily and you will get a sparkling white and clean microwave.

The lemon will give a nice odor.

Can you use lemon juice in a bottle? Like one you buy in stores? The ones that come in the lemon shaped bottles? This is a question for if you don't have a lemon.

Thank you so much! You just made my day - this was so easy and my microwave looks brand new (and it had gotten a bit nasty!!).

How long do you microwave? 5 minutes is a long time for 1 cup.

Yes, it is. You should watch the first time, and make sure that you stop before the cup is empty.

My new microwave oven has a special setting for that purpose, and some funny looking water container to hang against the air inlet, almost covering the inlet. Almost! Hardly any better than a cup or glass placed wherever you want, but I suppose the vapour is blown a bit harder and therefore will condense better (cooling). This funny looking steam basket holds just 43 grams of water. The oven has a content of 40 litres.

I did not measure the time the device is heating water, but certainly not 5 minutes. The whole session lasts 15 minutes, most of which is waiting for a beep, meant to give the water time to soften the dirt. I would not advise you to use such a small amount of water, unless you watch it boil and stop before the cup is empty. My device has a sensor for moist (vapour), and probably stops when that starts decreasing. Could also be just a timer.

If a cup is something like a real cup(*), I think 5 min. is safe, but both the water and the time can be less. Steaming sooner, saving time. The water should boil for a minute or two.

(*) Please xcuse me for being so metrical, but I keep confusing all the different fluid spoons with table-ounces per square stone.

can I use bottled lemon juice?

I don't think so. Bottled lemon juice will have added sweetening agent which may attract ants. (I assume) I guess lemon would be the best.

I'll have to give this a try today!

Was waiting for an cleaning tip like this :) Simple!
