Intro: Light Up the Perimeter of Your Yard With (solar) Light Posts

The goal of this ible is to show a way to setup an automatic lighting perimeter around your fenced yard using those cheap solar LED lights by setting them on very easy to use posts... your fence posts!

STEP 1: Materials

For this you need...

  • Fence posts. If you have PVC posts (as I do), or wood posts, it is as easy as drilling a hole. With the wood, you can even put them at any height, but to preserve the warranty of the PVC posts, you want to stick to only drilling in the removable cap.
  • Some metal posts have plastic tops, that might work as well. Metal capped metal posts can be drilled as well, but be prepared to work!

Tools and materials

STEP 2: Drill the Hole

First, remove the bottom post, and measure how wide you need to go with your stepped bit. Then drill to the desired size.

STEP 3: Add the Silicone

Add the silicone. This will prevent toppling, getting caught by wind, but also prevent water from pooling in the hole or post.

You can then assemble and install.

Enjoy!

We did this several years ago. Within days, the lights closest to the street were STOLEN! Good luck, even with silicone cement.

A squirle has been knocking mine down now and then :p
