Introduction: Lily Hair Clips

A quick effective paper folding project. These make great unique hair decorations and can be made in colours to match particular outfits. Especially great for parties and weddings.

Step 1: What You'll Need.

Materials:
- 4x Paper squares: approximately 5cm. 2 green, 2 of desired colour.
- A plain metal hair clip or hair pin.
- 1 small craft jewel of desired colour.
- Strong cotton.
- A glue gun.

Step 2: The Petals - Part 1

Set aside the green paper squares, Fold the remaining paper squares in half and then cut along the fold, making two rectangles from each piece (4 altogether). You will only need to use 3 of these, but it's good to have a spare!

Step 3: The Petals - Part 2.

Fold rectangle in half across it's length. Try to make all folds for this project precise and crisp.

Step 4: The Petals - Part 3.

Fold each corner of the rectangle into the centre, using the previous fold as a guide.

Step 5: The Petals - Part 4.

Fold the remaining edges into the centre, again using the first fold as a guide. Repeat steps 3 to 5 until you have 3 folded shapes as pictured.

Step 6: The Leaves - Part 1.

Repeat step 2 with the green squares. Again you will only need 3 of the rectangles. Cut approximately 1cm off one end of each rectangle and discard the smaller piece.

Step 7: The Leaves - Part 2.

Repeat steps 3 to 5 with the green rectangles. When finished you should have 6 folded shapes as pictured; 3 of the petal colours and 3 slightly shorter green ones.

Step 8: Assembling the Flower - Part 1.

Fold the petals in half across their length so that the other folds you made can be seen on the outside. Fold the green leaves across their length the opposite way so that the other folds you made are on the inside.

Step 9: Assembling the Flower - Part 2.

Tuck the green leaf shapes into the petal shapes as pictured.

Step 10: Assembling the Flower - Part 3.

Flatten the three tucked shapes and stack them side by side. Use thread to tie the shapes together in the middle, making sure they are bound tightly.

Step 11: Assembling the Flower - Part 4.

Carefully separate each half petal so it branches out as pictured. There should be 6 arms.

Step 12: Assembling the Flower - Part 5.

Carefully fold a petal in half, back on itself so that it stands vertically and reveals the green leaf underneath. Do this again for the 5 remaining petals. At this point you may wish to also flatten the leaves slightly into a more realistic leaf shape.

Step 13: Assembling the Flower - Part 6.

Using a glue gun, glue a craft jewel to the centre of the inside of the flower. This will catch the light and hide the thread.

Step 14: Finally....

Use the glue gun to attach the finished flower to a metal hair clip. Your clip is finished! These can be painted with varnish or clear nail polish to make them more durable and water resistant.
